He needs to direct. It would be a shame to see a different visual take on the film version of Midle Earth mythos.

A sequel to The Hobbit? Weeeeeird.
Tonight I happened to think about making a movie of the story of Beren and Lúthien. Great story, just long enough for one movie.

I think they were going to tell not only The Hobbit but other associated stories from other texts as well.

Were they? I got the impression they were just going to extend the story of the Hobbit into two movies. I read they are going to do all of the filming in one filming session as they did for LOTR.

Bah, I believe The Hobbit is meant as a short story. It's 300 pages, compared to LotRs 1200.
I'm sure they'll be able to fill two movies, for example with a story line in Laketown and Mirkwood, but I wonder how they are going to make each part an individual movie.

Yeah I fear they are attempting to over-milk the golden Tolkien teat by trying to make two movies out of the Hobbit.

The Hobbit is a "short story" but there's quite a bit of material packed into that book. I haven't read it in a while, but if I had to make an educated guess I'd say they will end the first movie right when Bilbo finds the Ring.
The Hobbit is just a good old fashioned adventure story. The LotR is more of a giant epic with wars and stuff. I can't wait to see the Dragon in the Hobbit.
