I think its cool... but on the same hand...
seems like a lot of racing franchises are doing this.

But... It's Mario Kart.
Eh, I guess if it's fun. But I just don't see the point.
I'm already in a bad mood about the whole Sonic as a Smash Bros. character. I know I'm gonna be in the minority on this one but... I think Sonic is just a terrible franchise at this point, has been for the past eight years or so, and that it should die a quiet death that nobody notices or cares about and rots in the ninth level of Hell.

I agree but disagree with you.
Sonic is still a well known franchise. That has just sucked since Dreamcast.
But I till think it has appeal in the mass market and well, Sonic and MArio is a dream for many.
I dislike Sonic in the game (though till excited for it) because Sonic has a very limited move set. I mean he runs, he jumps and he has his spin dash. Maybe his homing attack but that's about the extent of it. Sure same could be said of Captain Falcon but since spent all his time in a car, you could kind of make up abilities fo him.

Also of note
The game will be 12 players online.

I don't like it. It's called Mario Kart for a reason. Change = evil! Lol

I don't really see the point either. I guess motorcycles will be faster but lighter or something like that.

I think it's awesome...
Seems there is a "stunt" type mode.... 1080? Rox!

So what you're saying is, if they just changed the title of the game to something like "Mario Kart: With Motorcycles!" then it would be ok. But as it is now, you can't get your mind around the fact that a game called "Mario Kart" has motorcycles in it.
Please explain why it's a bad thing, and stop posting the typical knee-jerk i hate change!! reactions.

Aw hell nah, don't you be putting new shit in my games, Nintendo. Give me the same game you've already made 10 times before, and maybe update the graphics a bit, that's what I'm sayin' right there.

But it has yet to prove that it will add anything that is both worthwhile and new. If you want a more specific reason for thinking it's stupid, here it is. I don't see anything in a 'stunt mode' than a hollow feature without substance. When Nintendo proves otherwise I will be more receptive to the change.
Instead of making a real Motorcross type title (how about a good Excitebike sequel) they're gonna throw Motorcycles into Mario Kart. It just feels cheap and false.

Well, I am not against the motorbikes per say. Better than a potential Mario Motorbikes game on it's on.
Just seems like a lot of games are doing it think PGR 4 did it, think need for Speed is doing it not sure.
I think they look cool and they do seem to add some stuff to it like tricks and looser control from the video seen.
But Mario Kart is arcadey to begin with so I don't know.
As for the stunts, they look cool and knowing Mario Kart series shall lead to some interesting shortcuts. Maybe mini speed bursts like the er blue flames
Aww, motorcycles will be awesome. They'll fit the fast-paced action of Mario Kart. Big double karts featured in Double Dash didn't really do it for me - I always picked the light karts. I'll definitely be using motorcycles.

I wanna see mario sliding on his ass into a wall after laying down his bike.

Yeah that's what I wondered about, will you be able to fall from your bike? My guess is no.
By the way, why doesn't this game have sharks with friggin' laser beams?

I thought this is what we had Excitebike for?
*Vrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Overheat. *
Damn.
EDIT: Actually, what would be better is a new UNIRACERS for Wii. Anybody else remember Uniracers and how awesome it is?

If there isn't going to be blood, then motorcycles don't belong in the game.
Sorry, but Princess Peach can't get into a morotcycle accident and walk out of it without any serious scrapes or lacerations.
Oh wait, I forgot, in the Mushroom Kingdom no one ever feels pain or gets hurt. Its just a happy-go-lucky f**king parade 24 hours a day

Oh god I wants me some new Uniracers. Man can you imagine some awesome developer re-imagining the whole Uniracers thing? My creativity doesn't delve far enough to figure out how you could make it fun and somewhat the same as the original but in 3D.
I'm with Dyne, I like the more fast-paced MK, and hopefully motorcycles will bring some of that. It doesn't have to be F-Zero speeds, but even MK64 was I think too slow. The DS for the little bit I played had a good speed. I didn't know though that a bunch of other games were doing something similar with motorcycles.
I agree, can we get some sharks with friggin' laser beams???
Oh, and BaB, please please please -- it's per se. Like segue, it's got the Latin pronunciation.

i fail to see how motorcycles change the dynamic of the game
it was one thing in diddy kong racing, for example, to have a plane which offered an off-road course, or a hovercraft which offered an in-water course, but when you have a franchise called mario KART adding motorcycles does what?
The best motorcycle game was called Road Rash, and it kicked ass. The best Kart game was Mario Kart. This is a gimmick.
And Sonic has sucked for a long time, I thought the GBA side scrollers were okay, but nothing has hit home like Sonic 2 or Sonic 3.

Road Rash would have been fun if you could actually keep your motorcycle next to your opponent's. All you did was race past them, miss, slow down, miss, speed up, miss, etc. :(

Ah yes, Diddy Kong Racing! That was actually a pretty fun game. But if MK tries to clone a clone of it's own series, then I will be very disappointed.

I personally don't see the point in adding motorcycles...it's a gimmick that takes away from the charm of the series, IMO.
What's everyone's favourite in the series? For me it's gotta be Mario Kart 64.

Agreed, though the original does have its charms...

I will get crap for this...
But Double Dash!
I love the two per kart setup. It had some awesome tracks. Good custom weapons and had a blast all through college.
Original SNES version is still the best.

The only MK games I've played are the original and DD. I really enjoyed both, although the SNES one did feel better. DD is more fun with friends though.

Definitely Mario Kart 64. The SNES version has a special place in my heart, but nothing beats racing through DK's Jungle Parkway.

Honestly, if Mario Kart DS had come out on a console though, it'd probably be my favorite.
