Three men remained in the room: Windows, Garry, and another one of the base’s younger researchers. The young nameless researcher had taken the liberty of wetting himself. Garry walks over to the young man, kneels down next to him and makes a shushing motion with his finger.

“Ssshhhh, it’s going to be okay”

Garry puts his hands on either side of the researcher’s neck, almost in a gentle and caressing way. He then makes a quick jerk and the researcher’s neck snaps.

Windows scrambles backwards as quickly as he can.

“No no no no no, no fucking way”

Garry stands up and turns around to face Windows. Garry does not run, but walks towards him at a calm and collected pace.

“Get the fuck away from me, man!”

The fire still spreads throughout the room. In the only corner of the room not currently on fire, Windows sees it. His salvation. The dynamite. Unfortunately, there is one obstacle between himself and the dynamite, and its name is Garry. Garry stops and turns around to see what Windows has his eyes fixed on.

“Hahaha…is that what you want? To blow us up? They were all infected, Windows. I saved us. We’re alright now. Everything’s going to be just fine.”
That thing could emulate Garry’s voice perfectly. Even with human sounding inflections and all. But the words that were meant to be reassuring were in fact terrifying and sent shivers shooting down Windows’ spine. This thing could emulate us too well, he thought to himself. It has to die.

The dynamite wasn’t going to work. There was nothing he could do now…except…the rifles in the gun case! Windows with renewed strength, ran with all his might out of the room and into the adjacent corridor. Windows felt like he was going to vomit, but he couldn’t let that stand in the way. It was survival time. Time to prove his worth. Time to save humanity. It was in his hands now.

He rounded the last corner and the gun case was in sight. Garry said nothing. No protests from behind him. In fact, Garry hadn’t even followed him. Why isn’t he-

From around another corner, a lone sled dog saunters in. It was the dog that escaped the kennel that night. The night when all of this began. The dog appears pleasant at first, looking at Windows inquisitively. As if to ask “What’s the matter?”.

The dog’s expression quickly turns into a sneer. His fangs come out and he begins growling.

“Oh no…no…”

The dog leaps through the air, knocking Windows backwards. Windows screams in protest but that is soon remedied when the husky rips Windows’ vocal chords from his throat. Hot blood shoots everywhere, covering the walls, the dog, the floor, and Windows’ struggling body. Windows dies with his eyes wide open, as if they were still fixed in horror on his alien assailant. The room is silent except for the sound of a fire extinguisher coming from the common room.

--

The dog wanders into the common room, the fire is now mostly under control. Garry has dropped the façade, no longer attempting to emulate human expressions or behavior. His mouth hangs open, and he stares a blank stare. His movements have become unnatural but he has no need to pretend anymore.

Garry begins to drag corpses outside and place them in holes he dug the night before. Fuchs lays frozen on the ground next to these holes. It must have been the last thing he saw before freezing to death. As Garry buries the bodies, the dog lays in the snow, looking on intently. The blood has frozen to his fur. He’ll clean himself later.

After Garry finishes with the bodies, he goes inside to tidy up. He wipes the blood off the walls, locks rooms that have been incinerated, tidies the floors. This place will need to be presentable.

Later that night, Garry tends a fire in the base’s incinerator. The base is calm. The only sound is the howling arctic wind outside. The dog lies near the fire, licking the blood of his fur. All that is left to do is wait. The replacement team will be here in two months.

Of course, a dog shouldn’t know this.

THE ALIENS WIN

Dead:

GameMaster - anonymous researcher (uninfected) - killed by mob on final day

Swan - Windows (uninfected) - killed by aliens on final day

Remaining players:

Yoda - Garry (infected)

Vampyr - sled dog (infected)

Good game guys.

I'll post the role PMs/hidden mechanics soon.

I only now heard that you wrote all the narration yourself. Even came up with the The Thing adaptation. Good game, thanks for the effort.

PS: My (prof. Blairs pov) narration will be up tomorrow.

Nah, the narrations and rules were all my creation. The only thing I borrowed was the basic rule set.

Dylflon
08-20-2007, 03:04 PM
These are all the interesting role PMs

You are:

The body-snatcher

Yes, you crashed on Earth thousands of years ago and became trapped in the ices of Antarctica. That is, until a Norwegian expedition team dug you up. You’ve eradicated the Norwegian base and escaped the last surviving members in the form of a husky.

The American arctic research team you came upon has taken you in.

Your goal is simple: take over the bodies of all of the members of the research team.

You have the ability to turn one player into an alien each night. At this point, the controlled player will adopt your win condition.

One of the first two players you infect will gain the power to take over human bodies in the event that you become compromised. Be wary though, only the first two will have this ability. If all aliens who can body snatch are killed, the remaining converts gain the ability to control one kill per night.

-----

You are:

R.J. MacReady

MacReady is a mid-thirties vietnam veteran with a slight alcohol problem and also the helicopter pilot for U. S. Outpost 31. A loner who isolates himself from his team mates by bunking in an elevated shack outside of the main camp. MacReady passes the time by drinking J & B and playing chess on a computer. A man's man who isn't a leader per se, but often questions dubious orders.

In the beginning of the alien crisis, you are the first to take charge. You are charismatic and people look to you for leadership.

You have the special ability to protect one player each turn. This protection will save your target player from either being killed or from being turned into an alien. Guarding a player can not protect them from the mob vote.

In the event that Childs dies, you will gain the ability to carry out one kill per night. In the event that Blair dies, you will gain the ability to seer one player per night to find out their name and if they are controlled by an alien.

Your win condition is to eradicate all aliens hiding in human form.

-----

You are:

Childs

Main mechanic Childs is a no-nonsense, no bullshit kind of guy. He’s somewhat imposing but is also a team player. Childs likes to smoke marijuana, which he grows in a secluded hydroponics garden under the camp. He is responsible for modifying blowtorches into flamethrowers. His presence is always made clear when he's around.

You have the flamethrowers and also the special ability to kill one player per night.

Your win condition is to eradicate all aliens hiding in human form.

-----

You are:

Blair

Senior biologist Blair is a straightforward, practical realist. He is a think tank within himself, always appearing to be a few steps ahead of the rest of the team. Blair is primarly a scientist, who double as a vetenarian when need be.

You have a special ability. You are the seer. You can target one player and find out their name and whether or not they are infested by an alien.

Your win condition is to eradicate all aliens hiding in human form.

-----

You are:

Doctor Copper

The main medical physician at Outpost 31. Copper is a very decent man, a practical doctor always on hand when duty calls. He is also a very curious individual, and is often where ever the action is, before anyone else.

You have a one time use special ability. You may run one blood test at any time after the first round to find out whether a player has been infested or not.

Your win condition is to eradicate all aliens hiding in human form.

-----

You are:

Clark

Dog handler Clark is probably the most solitary person in the company. Feeling more comfortable around animals than humans, Clark is the man who is responsible for the well-being and proper care of the dogs used by the men at Outpost 31.

You have no special abilities.

But you do know the identity of the sled dog <name here>

Your win condition is to eradicate all aliens hiding in human form.

-----

You are:

Windows

A young twenty-something man, Windows is the station's main radio and communications operator. He is a rather loud man, who will often defy orders and authority, but somehow still manages to be a team player when it’s necessary. He is also a slight coward, who often regrets his actions.

You have a one use special ability. You may protect one player once at any time after the first round from being killed or being taken over by aliens. You cannot however protect your target from the mob vote.

You win condition is to eradicate all aliens hiding in human form.

-----

You are:

Garry

An ex-military man, now assigned to Outpost 31, is the station's leader and manager. He is the only man in the company to carry a firearm, and his leadership, is more often questioned than trusted by the other men in the outpost.

You have a one time use special ability. At any time in the game after round one, you may choose one player to eliminate from the game.

You win condition is to eradicate all aliens hiding in human form.

-----

You are:

A sled dog

I’m being totally serious.

You’re just an average old run of the mill sled dog. You don’t do a whole lot besides eat, poop, and sleep since the recent storms have made travel by dog sled a suicidal proposition.

You have no special abilities.

But you do know the identity of Clark the dog handler <name here>.

Your win condition is to eradicate all aliens hiding in human form.

-----

You are:

An anonymous arctic researcher

Sadly, there are only so many characters in The Thing. But hey, at least you’re still a good guy.

You have no special abilities.

Your goal is to eradicate all aliens hiding in human form.

Haha, wow. I was sure after myself and Germy died it would be game over for the aliens.

It wasn't easy, you left us in a bad situation. heheh.

But I managed to get Fox6 and Swan both to think I was uninfected, and then learned that Fox6 was the vigilante.

After the aliens lost the power to infect, we gained the power to kill one person each time. that's not as good as infecting, but better than nothing.

Also, Yoda, who was Garry, had the ability to kill one person each time. So on that one turn where four humans died, we had the mob go after one person, Fox6 after another, Yoda after another, and then alien kill another.

:D

EDIT: And I got the worst super power. I could tell who the dog handler was, but he was already dead when I started playing. XD

Prof thoguht he had to PM his convert to the actual person.

So he PMed Germy on day one, in the middle of the round.

And then BaB used his guard on Germy.

I told Prof to convert someone else because i wanted the game to last more than one round and I thought Germy knowing the prof was an alien would be balance enough.

You are:

Nauls

Nauls is the young cook stationed at US Outpost 31. He is a funky, roller-skating, music-loving man in his early 20s who always has something to say to lighten up the mood of the company.

You have no special abilities.

But you have dynamite. If you are the last surviving non-controlled human, you can use the dynamite to take out the whole camp. This would count as a win for the good guys.

Haha...BaB is being pretty sour :p

If you had trusted angrist, you could have guarded him each round, allowing him to announce his seer results publicly, and then aliens would have wasted kills/infects on him.

And BaB.

You suck. :p

Dylflon, you forgot mine:

You are:

George Bennings

http://www.geocities.com/the_thing_1982/pic-bennings1.jpg

Bennings, a late 40s/early 50s meteorological specialist assigned to US Outpost 31, is considered as a whiner by his team mates, due to the fact he doesn't resist in expressing his disapproval. He is a good-natured individual who likes to stay away from the action, while maintaining a healthy curiosity for the unknown.

You have no special abilities.

Your win condition is to eradicate all aliens hiding in human form.

Now, wait, if Nauls was able to blow the dynamite at the end, why didn't the humans win?

Now, wait, if Nauls was able to blow the dynamite at the end, why didn't the humans win?

I would have had to been the very last uninfected human alive. Two outlived me for a day. MacReady found my dynamite apparently. Must say though, happy about how I died. Direct alien attack. Wonder if I ever made it to the bathroom. Would have hated to have died with a full bladder.

That was a fun game.

And before anyone comes out and says "yeah, but you sucked at it" or "you were obviously an alien", let me answer this:

After I died, how obvious were the aliens that were left? I think you all only got one more alien after me, which is pretty sad. So either I was the worst alien ever, or the best for drawing everyone's attention while silently infecting...

VIVA LOS ALIENOS!!!!

Angrist
08-20-2007, 05:03 PM
Hm, the only game I can think of that has bad guys disguised as humans is Perfect Dark... but that doesn't really appeal to me.
Of course it doesn't need aliens or anything, could be regular bad guys.

GameMaster, that's not the way you're supposed to play this game. It would be too easy for the alien to pretend he's inactive..... not voting, but in the meanwhile infecting/killing. The next round we should be stricter with the "no posts, kicked out"-rule.

I think with this being Metroid month, we should have a Metroid themed one.

Vigilante would be Samus

Maybe alien vigilante who could kill once is Dark Samus.

Way to go Aliens! I knew Vampyr was the best man for the job. He outsmarted my ass way back in the Survivor days.

This actually reminded me of the Survivor days! It was very nostalgic playing the old mind games here at GT. I was a bit surprised when you infected me; I thought that I was way under the radar. However, I must thank you, because it made the game a hell of a lot more fun being the bad guy.

A BaB, it'd be my honor to work with you in the next one, for good or vile. I'm excited to see what kind of game mechanics Dyl can come up with for a Mario themed one, and the narration should be interesting as well. I know I enjoyed reading this one, especially day 6...and the last line of day 7. :D

EDIT:
@swan: I'm glad there's no hard feelings, man. I was silently praying that you wouldn't go back through and count the number of times someone had been infected, or you would have realized that GM couldn't have been the only one left. Good game.

Mario-themed mafia game.... craziness. I assume the narrator would need some kind of inspiration, like the old Super Mario show, or the story of Super Paper Mario.

I'll work out the game mechanics in my notebook while I'm over there. It'll be ready to play a couple days after I get back.

Green: I'll be PMing you ideas on PA. You do that same back.
