Link to the patent: Control Docking Unit (http://appft1.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO2&Sect2=HITOFF&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsearch-bool.html&r=1&f=G&l=50&co1=AND&d=PG01&s1=20070174531&OS=20070174531&RS=20070174531)

That would be, er... interesting.

So what does it do exactly? Rectify a crappy analogue stick?

It's the next-best thing to PSP on a stick.

doesnt really make sense as shown there... usb plug on the psp is on the top. so it would have to be a wire that connects the two.
then how is that psp being held onto that controller? psp has a good weight to it. so it would have to be some pretty sturdy bracket mounted around the controller and psp. the whole thing would be tipsy, top heavy, and awkward feeling...

did they move the usb on the psp "redesign" to the bottom of the psp or anything?

That's what you call "ghetto-rigged."
