That guy is such a tool. You can tell he's never used an iPhone, because ... doesn't require 9 key presses, it requires a maximum of 5, minimum of 3. You can click the symbol button, drag to the symbol, and let go to get to symbols quickly. Or tap (1) to open, tap the symbol (2,3,4,), and tap to close (5) all of which happens in a second.

Not to mention web browsing doesn't even compare to using your iPhone, which is still a phone and I wouldn't want to browse unless I had to. But nothing can beat the l33tness of Google Maps as a built-in app. It's unreal.

But nothing can beat visual voicemail, no matter how hard you try. I can set my greeting as many times as I want, without ever hearing "If you are satisfied with your message, press 1." I can listen to voicemail's in the order I choose, pause, rewind, fast forward, call back without them leaving the number, and oh ya, I even get voicemail where I have no service!

P.S. My iPhone is lovely, only costs $140 more than the E70 and is a year newer with a cheaper data plan. Owned.

if i had the money to waste i'd try out the iphone...but i can do all the simple crap like check for movie times, the weather, and get maps on my phone in a matter of seconds. i also am a text whore (5000 texts last month) so the iphone would not be cool. but hey, whatever floats your boat. i also work around IT, and it's safe to say that the iphone is not going to take the business world.

I fucking hate RAZRs. I had one for about 1 year and a half.. what a mistake. I was on my third razr because they are so fragile... but Im lucky enough to be using a phone that my friend gave me.. Sony Ericsson K750i. Now my RAZR is buried in my drawer of useless shit.

Yea, EVERYONE has a Razr. I mean EVERYONE, at least it seems like it. Most of my friends have one, and most of them seem to hate it. Im majorly glad I kept with my simple Samsung SGH 319.

BTW, Apple just posted its most profitable quarter ever, making $818 million and also seeing the highest quarterly sales for Macs ever. Steve Jobs is awesome, and I am awesome, and if you want to be awesome too, your phone will run OS X. End of story.

Double standards? Don't get me started on double standards. iPhone has the hardest reviews you will ever find on a phone. The HTC Touch is only EDGE, but that's just fine. iPhone doesn't support 12G? OMG, this is the worst phone ever!!! It happens everywhere. I just watched a video review from G4 for the iPhone and they criticized it for only having a 2MP camera and no flash! But they love the HTC Touch with it's... wait... 2MP camera and no flash. Give me a break. They also don't care that it's a tri-band phone, but if iPhone was a tri-band phone, they would hate it. Not to mention iPhone should have more storage than the 4GB or 8GB. But wait! What does HTC Touch have? A 1GB MicroSD card. 1GB, yay! And it costs as much as an 8GB iPhone.

iPhone reviews are like reviews for a new installment of Windows. Even if it can stop world hunger, and end violence, people will find some reason to hate it. It's cool to hate the iPhone, but despite all their attempts to try, it's flying off shelves, and people love it.

And I'm assuming you don't know, cause you suck and use Windows, but if your iPhone breaks you need to call, get this, Apple's award-winning customer service. Here's a slight reality for you Sir Fu, Apple developed the OS, every single app on the phone, provides software updates, and designed the hardware. Why would I call an AT&T rep in India and expect them to help?

True people are harder on the iPhone then others, but who's fault is that... thats right APPLE. Coming out saying that this phone is going to redefine cell phones as we know it today. That the technology in it is going to be far superior then anything out there. EDGE? 2 MP? Average Signal Strength? Ok... so where is this AWESOME technology? Touch Screen... yeah, been done before. Oh, the Harddrive... what, that's been been done before too?. True Internet, yeah they got that one... oh what it's EDGE speed.

There was so much hype behind the iPhone (because of apple) that we knew that there was going to be harsh reviews. And it happened. And CNET gave it a 8.0... which is an awesome review, but not a 10. Which it should have been with everything that Apple was bragging about. But for a phone that is supposed to be superior is every way, there are a lot of flaws.

There are so many features that AT&T offer that the iPhone can't offer because it isn't UMTS/HSDPA (3G). From the MobiTV to XM Radio. I know, it's an iPod too, so there is not point in XM Radio. I agree with that, but it's still a feature that the iPhone can't do. What about video conferencing, nope iPhone can't do that one either. 3G is a very VERY important technology to today's technology.

HTC Touch (http://www.importgsm.com/product.php?productid=402&cat=0&page=1) = $490

2GB microSD (http://www.crucial.com/store/partspecs.aspx?imodule=CT2GBUSD) = $31

Total = $521.

Yeah, it's $20 more expensive (and 2GB less memory), but yet this product is unlocked (which is kinda of funny because you don't get a discount on an iPhone, you do pay full retail price on that phone but it's not unlocked. AT&T has the iPhone for 5 years, I don't see Apple or AT&T letting the Subsidy Unlock Code out their hands anytime soon). No contract to sign, if you want to go to T-Mobile or AT&T, yeah it's your choice. Also there is no "special" rate plan that you have to get if you get this phone. If you just want to use the WiFi, you don't have to pay any Data Fees.

I think you have mistaken AT&T with HP. AT&T has their customer service call centers in America. I'm actually working in one. And why would you call me, because all you have to do if you have a problem with your service/phone is call 611 from your cell phone and every customer expects us to know about the iPhone. I know more then most (I did do my homework), but I am still not allowed to answer any questions (other then rate plans and other voice/data related questions). The whole point of customer service is that when you call in with a question on a cell phone, you don't want to get transferred somewhere else.

And yeah, I know that AT&T is ranked like 4th out of all the major cell phone companies customer service... This is a whole different discussion. I work with IDIOTS!

I so have problems with my HTC Dash right now. For some STUPID reason it doesn't want to sync with Outlook Express. And I called the AWARD WINNING customer service of T-Mobile. And you know what they told me... yeah, we can't help you right now.

So I plan on contacting HTC... see if they can help me out at all.

my 100 dollar phone has bluetooth, 2gigs of memory, plays music, browses the web quickly, has a full qwerty keyboard, can take pictures on its 2megapixel camera, can send multimedia messages, allows full ringtone support, and isn't at&t.

i think that's where the root of the anti-iphone argument should lie. unless you are a tech nut or an apple enthusiast, the affordability of the iphone does not outweigh the practicality...UNLESS you are genuinely interested in the ipod features and plan on using it as a ligit music alternative, or you have a huge boner for efficient mobile web browsing. for me, i have a computer around me 65% of the time...when i'm not by my computer i can pull up directions on my phone or movie times in less than a minute, which is more than efficient for a broke ass college kid.

there's also some personal preference stuff like keys with force feedback....

i guess my point is the iphone isn't terrible for what it is. in fact, the iphone is the best touch phone available right now. i don't like your angle camfu, because my 100 dollar phone can do all the fun crap your phone can do too, only your phone is less sleek than the iphone or as functional

Strange... my $100 phone does everything I want it too also. Bluetooth, Music, MMS, SMS, Video, Internet, Email (yes, I got that fixed.. had to install Outlook 2007). I don't think my Dash is the best phone out there... by any means.

I never said the iPhone was horrible. I just said that it isn't the "END ALL BE ALL" of cell phones that Apple said it was going to be. Has the iPhone broken records? Yeah it did, sold close to a million phones in 3 days. I should be happy because all the means to me is Job Security.

My angle? It's nothing more then a phone that didn't live up to the hype. Another phone that was like this... Motorola V3I. But nobody really cared about this. I will tell you this, the iPhone has brought a lot of discussion to the US. Thats awesome, something new to talk about with other people.

I agree that the iphone is not the end all phone too. In fact, nothing apple is really end-all in my book. I don't like where the ipod has been stuck for the last 3 years, I'm not a huge fan of the apple hardware cost, and being somewhat a power user I could care less that their OSes are flashier and easier to use initially than a Windows machine. But the lesson here is you can't argue with Apple users, because they are always right 100% of the time. Trust me, i roomed with one, I know 10 more. If steve jobs took an iCrap it would be the most awesome thing ever, so arguing that the iphone didn't live up to its hype is like me arguing that all the stuff you can do on a Mac can be done on Windows, no apple fan wants to hear it. :p

i don't disagree with you or gekko completely. besides, a little creative competition is good for gates, you can't run a monopoly without boxing out the competition :D

Oh please, Apple never said this phone would change the world. As I remember it, they said "You're going to love it." You can't argue with it being a revolutionary phone, the best iPod yet, and the best internet on a phone. You simply can't.

iPod was a revolutionary MP3 player, but guess what? It didn't have radio, and still doesn't. But it did add the development of a scrollwheel for navigating music. Revolutionary. iPhone is the same way, it may not have every feature of every phone that came before it, but it has a lot that they don't.

The UI is one of a kind, and finally made smart phones easy for the average consumer to use. Visual Voicemail is such a great feature it's only a matter of time before the old fashioned voicemail is a thing of the past. Not to mention the contacts and calendar are one-of-a-kind the best I've ever seen on a phone, and pretty much considered by everyone to be the best of any phone. BTW, it even syncs with Outlook Express :p

This is the first phone to browse the real web with a phone, and let me tell you, it's nice. Google Maps is also amazing, and while you can access it via the web, it's much, much, much faster as an app. It's a lot faster using EDGE than browsing the web. It also integrates very nicely with your contacts and your phone. Good luck doing that on your phone. I sense breakthrough.

As for the iPod, this is hands down the greatest UI for browsing your music ever developed. I never want to see a scrollwheel again. It's that good. Beautiful. You may enjoy your XM radio draining your battery, but I would much rather flick through cover flow all day long.

The real question is why pay $520 for a horrible HTC Touch when I can pay $499 and have an iPhone? Your argument that I can just use Wi-Fi doesn't really help things, because if Wi-Fi is in so many places, then why does it matter that iPhone doesn't support 3G? Fact of the matter is 3G is a battery killer right now. I'd much rather wait a few extra seconds using EDGE and have my phone last longer. Besides, Wi-Fi is just about everywhere. I pick up signals almost every time I turn on my phone. But the beauty of the unlimited data plan+3 way calling+visual voicemail activation for the extra $15 (if you already have 200 txts) is that my phone can sit there in my pocket, no matter where I am, and check for new mail, or be sent my mail from a push IMAP. I can check the weather or stocks with the touch of a button and not be worried about data. If I want to move my map with driving directions because I found out there's construction, I can find a new route, for free. See, Apple's intelligent. What's the point of creating a phone that is data-heavy when people would be afraid to use it because of the cost? Instead they make one simple and very affordable plan that gives you access to every single feature on your iPhone to use as much as you want.

You're trying your best to hate iPhone, but it's impossible. It's going to take over the world. Just sit there at AT&T and answer questions about the other stupid phones. If my Nokia phone doesn't work, I want to call someone at Nokia, not AT&T. AT&T is a phone company, and the phone service is still working. It's the hardware, made by Nokia, that is the problem. I want someone who can help. I'm glad Apple is handling customer support.

See Cam, what you fail to realize about Apple is that their customers are happy. I don't use a Mac because I can't figure out a PC, I use it because it's simple and works like it should. For example, the other day I set up USB printer sharing on my router (well, 2nd router). On the PC I had to first assign the router a static IP, the go into Control Panel > Printers > Add Printer > Local Printer > TCP/IP > Enter IP > Install drivers > Select printer from a monster list. Can I do it? Of course, but I greatly prefer Apple's approach that not only makes it easier for those who don't understand computers, but easier for me who don't like to navigate the cryptic maze of computing unless necessary. Plug printer into USB port, File > print, and bam! Printer is found, and page prints out.

Apple did the same thing with a phone. The UI is simple, but I don't need to know what color button does what. They're labeled, and all easily accessible. It's not that I can't figure out phones, but I'd rather not.

Design is an amazing thing I wish more companies would put some time into. You should read "The Design of Everyday Things." It's an excellent book on the psychology of how your brain reacts when it sees everyday items, and how to design in a way where the user can understand how to use the product the first time seeing it. The moral? The consumer sees hundreds of thousands of objects in their lifetime and shouldn't feel stupid because they can't figure it out. It's not their fault, it's the fault of the design. A person should know how to use your product the first time they see it, with no instructions necessary. Kudos to Apple for having accomplished that.

Maybe one day you'll get smart, and stop spending $520 to avoid the iPhone, and embrace it. Outlook Express will sync, and you will be happy. Or wise up and stop working for AT&T. If you worked for Apple, Steve Jobs would've just bought you a 8GB iPhone. He's such a nice guy, if I do say so myself. :D

Well, at least there are a few intelligent Mac users around. That's definitely a better argument than the typical stuff I get. I do feel compelled to point out that Vista has greatly resolved a lot of the driver-pain-in-the-ass stuff. That's something that Windows has always been crappy with....let's flash back to the 95 days when USB drives weren't around...reinstalling windows was like a day-long procedure. I also disclaim that Vista is not perfect, although it's definitely 10 steps up from anything prior to it.

I suspect the iPhone will find a niche in a more mainstream portion of the market when the price goes down a bit. I don't know if it will share the same amount of success as the iPod, but I'm sure by the second or third generation the thing will be nice and refined. If I could afford the cost of the phone + the data plan I'd seriously take a stab at it....but yeah. One day.

Barring lack of money, I would pay $500 just so I could flick through the iPhone menus all day.

However I would dread having to find all of the correct album covers for the glut of songs I have acquired subversively, which iTunes can't seem to find automatically.

On an unrelated note, a few words from John C. Dvorak (PC Magazine Writer):

I can see why the Mac is gaining market share, because the rationale for using one is simple. Do you want to deal with the agony of antivirus, firewall, antispyware, and other touchy software subsystems, many of which do not work well? Or do you want to boot Microsoft Word and write a document and be done with it?

As someone who does recommend gear to people, I have to think to myself, "Should I recommend something that will come back to haunt me, or recommend a Mac with its higher price but lower hassle factor?" The answer is simple. I hate the idea of having to do customer service for people who cannot keep their systems clean, and that's most people.
