I am thinking about getting a xbox 360. I Have a 42" inch Sharp Aquas. I have the oppertunity to buy my buddies used one for a decent price, OR i could go and buy the elite.
My big question is what should I do and why?
Well, first and foremost, of course you should buy a 360!
Now that we have that out of the way... does your buddy own a premium or core? What kind of condition is it in? And what is the price he'll sell it to you for?
It's all relative when you're comparing it to getting an elite.
Also, remember there may be an impending price drop (http://www.gametavern.net/forums/showthread.php?t=17201).

I believe its the premium one for xbox360. It is a launch console. Price is $250
Alright, so the Elite retails for around $480, which is $230 more than what you would be paying for the premium. With the Elite you'll get a 120GB HD as opposed to 20GB and HDMI. Now, from what I've heard HDMI really isn't a big deal, so in essence you're getting an extra 100 GB, which for another $230 isn't worth it in my view. You can always buy an extra 120GB HD for $180 anyway.
So I'd get the premium, but like I said, prices on all SKUs might drop soon.
$250 Canadian, Bond. The retail one goes for $450-475, barring the elite. Even with a $100 price drop, it would still be $100 savings.
Oh... Canadian... this is embarrassing...
Anyway, I stand by what I said. :)

Another thing to remember about the Elite 360 is that it comes with the HDMI cable...
Those cables can be quite pricey themselves... The name-brand ones at least...
I really don't know any of the details about this HD hubub, I just know that if I'm gonna drop hundreds of dollars to run this video game console on the TV I dropped a thousand dollars on, I myself would quite prefer to have the best connection possible between the two...
I'm pretty sure I'll be going with the 360 this generation, but at this point in the game, I think it's a wise choice to wait and see how any possible price-drop/HDMI shindigs work out...
I'm particularly interested in the HDMI-capable-but-smaller-hard-drive-coming-withed Halo special edition 360... And what it's price will be...
Decide what to do Mr. Coffee?

I'd buy a new one... apparently the launch ones have a hard time staying alive. Even though I play the crap outta mine and it has never died. I even use it as my primary dvd player.
I'd go for a new one, while you're at it, get the HDMI version. Then buy:
Ghost Recon AW2
Gears of War
Dead Rising

I would recommend a new one as well.
As xboxes have a tendency to crap out.
Mines has died on me twice... since Christmas
