View Full Version : Rumor: Xbox 360 to drop price by $100 across all SKUs on August 1st
According to internet reports, a major Canadian retailer has confirmed that the Xbox 360 is set to receice an Official $100 price drop across all Skus as of August 1st. That will mean that the Xbox 360 core will retail for $199 (with a pack in memory unit) and be even cheaper than the Wii at $249 USD.

Yeah... I don't know about that. If Sony maintains a $599 price point I don't really see a 360 price cut.
Canadian pricepoints are ****ed. The Canadian Dollar is so close to the USD now that there better be a price drop.

I'd quite enjoy it if the HDMI-equipped 360 got a price drop...
I'm kinda not expecting it too soon though... :<

If you like HALO, there's a Halo themed 20gig 360 with HDMI that's way cheaper than the elite. That's about all there is for now.

Xbox is at 598 days without a price drop. Dn't think that has happened since maybe the 16-bit days. They are past due.

It's not about being due though, it's about making money. They would boost sales by dropping the price, but at what cost? With Sony's cheapest price point being $499 for the PS3, there is no reason why Microsoft should start lowering the price of the 360 (yet). If I were them, I'd sell the premium for $379 and the elite for $449...something like that.

Increased hardware sales will further increase software sales, bringing in additional revenue. It's the entire reason consoles are sold at a loss. Well, at least PS3 is.

Microsoft already made some pretty snarky comments, like how July was a stupid time to lower the price. Of course that's just PR spinnin' so maybe it'll happen, maybe it won't.

360 sales would shoot up alot if this happened. Nintendo would go "Red alert" if it dropped THAT much. I figured MS would do $50 drop first. Ninty follows dropping $50 (they enjoyed enough profit :p ) and Sony just sits there going "Hey! I'm still around.......hello?"

Nintendo has absolutely NO reason to drop the price as long as they're selling out every single shipment.

If true it would be time for me to get off my lazy butt and pick one up, though I do need money for school later.....

I'd imagine if this did happen, Nintendo would see if demand is still high for the Wii. If it starts to fall off, I'd imagine they'd slash the Wii price also to keep up demand and not look more expensive then the 360 behemoth

I don't remember where I've said this before, I think http://www.codenamerevolution.com/, but the Wii is a phenomenon. People go to the store to get one. Not a 360. Not a PS2 which only costs $150 or a $100's Gamecube. The casual gamer doesn't 'see' that the 360 is a more expensive machine and you'd get more value for your money tech-wise. They know you can only get the unique controls on the Wii, so the Wii gives more value for your money fun-wise.
They simply want a Wii.

Darn, I must be missing out on all the fun everybody's having with the Wii...
If only I'd play mine...
