And I need suggestions. After much consideration, I have decided not to get a Mac. I know this will dissapoint some of you. But for those of you that have windows based laptops (or even if you dont but know something about them), I would like your help. Im looking in the sub-1000 dollar range. I will be using it for school mostly, but I dont want something thats a slouch, I would like it to at least be able to play some game, so that means no integrated graphics. Hopefully I can find something for this price range with all that, and at least a 100 Gig hard drive and 1 Gig ram.
Anyways, whats the best mobile processor out there right now? Is it the intel core 2 duo? What about ATI's offerings? Browsing neweggs website makes me sick because off all the options.
But, now that you get a general idea of what im looking for, give me some advice. Is there a good website to buy one off of besides newegg? Are there some things that I should definatley try to avoid?

You can usually put together a fairly solid Dell laptop and not pay too much. There is always a coupon for something Dell discount related. The caveat is that it's a Dell...but how big of a caveat is that really? Crappy tech support, occasional problems out of the box, and an OS initially loaded with bloatware is all fixable if you don't mind spending a day or two formatting.
Vista is sex. I no longer need to spend hours installing stupid Dell drivers. It auto detected EVERYTHING. The only things I installed was my logitech mouse driver, and a Vista 32bit graphics driver with Nvidia's forceware. But i digress....

Assemble a nice ~$1300-$1400 inspiron e1505, and see what happens.
Don't buy more than the minimum RAM amount from dell either, they rip you off. That's something you can get for cheap on Newegg.
Acer, Sager or Asus all have great models, but you should research them and check out prices.
I was looking at the Asus w3j at the time of getting my laptop, but i ended up not because it's a bit pricey. But it's a sexy little thing.

Well, I found something that I just dont think I can beat for the price...

Sure, the brand might be a bit iffy, but look at those specs and then look at the price. Ive been doing some research on it, it seems to get great reviews everywhere, and I like the fact that its got a dedicated graphics card, and has 1 gig of ram, but only uses one of the slots, so its easily upgradable to 2 Gigs if I want.
Although I am looking into the dells now that you mentioned it, although I hate the idea of getting a dell.
