I'm going there next Sunday. I liked part 1 and 2, though part 2 was just a repetition of 1.

I read Rottentomatoes, it has a score of 72% so far. Some say it's better than 1 and 2, some say it's worse and some hate it.

So I wanted to know your opinion, since it's usually pretty reliable. :) I'm also trying to convince my gf to come with me.

Edit: the title should have Spider-Man instead of Spiderman.... I'm such a noob.

It's out?

Not out here until Friday. I want to see it though! The Rottentomatoes rating is a bit disappointing, but what the critics say is good about the movie, namely the action, is what I'm going to see it for anyway. Plus I've been waiting since I was like eight to see Spiderman fight Venom on the big screen.

I think it's already out in Holland. :D I'm going to see it next sunday.

They brought in the film reels for it yesterday at my theatre. Probably going to have a dry run of it tonight (staff only). But I bought a ticket for the midnight showing at exactly 12:01 A.M on Friday.

Ditto. Just came back from seeing it. Just some quick, spoiler-free thoughts:

-Better than 1. Not as good as 2.
-Cheesy in a couple of parts, but comes together mostly well at the end.
-They shouldn't make a 4.

Maybe I'll expand later.

I ended getting into the 12:05 am showing. The movies were packed, they had a total of 5 showings, first one at 12:01 and last starting at 12:20. Finally got home, so here is a quick opinion (no spoilers)

It's a long movie, 2 1/2 hours. Fight scenes are sweet. My favorite was the first one. Out of 10, I would give Spiderman 3 a seven. Still a very entertaining movie. But I'm an old Spiderman fan. Part 3 was right on line with the first two. If you enjoyed those, you will enjoy this one.

Was it worth a midnight showing? Yep, so no regrets there.

spiderman 3's biggest mistake was coming after spiderman 2....

okay, that was one of its many mistakes.

*spoiler*

emo parker was a hoot, seeing a packed theater laughing at the main character was kind of sad...and the whole jazz club dance scene was way to look-i'm-trying-to-be-jim-carey-from-the-mask for me.

there was too much...venom is simply one of the coolest villains, i figured the introduction of JJ's son from the second movie would have been the logical entrance point of the symbiote....instead we get a movie that has way too much going on at once.....we could have had a movie about the sandman, a movie about the second Goblin, a movie about the symbiote suit, and a movie about venom. Each of those 4 things is epic enough to mold a movie around.

Gwen was a waste of character space. I'm still trying to figure out if I enjoyed Topher Grace's performance as Brock/Venom...he was quirky but I like his persona a lot....but maybe that's just a bias from watching all the seasons of That 70's Show. Mary Jane sang...

the list goes on and on but i digress....

i did enjoy a lot of the movie, particularly all the stuff before peter became emo. i really wish more was done with doctor connors or venom though...

On the other hand, the movie did come to a logical conclusion...Harry and Pete became buds again, Harry died so Pete can bang MJ, the Sandman was forgiven, and the movie ended with a totally moral quote.

And I would be happy with the ending and maybe give the movie another star...except apparently there's supposed to be a Spider-Man 4, 5 and 6 in the works at some point.

**** that. If they knew they were making a sequel they shouldn't have botched Venom so bad.

***end spoiler***

Spider-Man 3 was a pretty good superhero movie minus a few gripes, but I spent all week before watching Spider-Man 2 which is a really really really good superhero movie. And Spider-Man 2 kind of takes a lot of the steam out of Spider-Man 3. Even the first Spider-Man does a few things better than Spider-Man 3.

Maybe the Marvel trend will continue...Spider-Man 2 was better than Spider-Man, and X-Men 2 was better than X-Men. Maybe the new Fantastic Four movie won't suck.

I'm not not recommending you go see Spider-Man 3, because it was a pretty good movie. But be warned that there are some cheesey parts between the action. And...if you're a huge fan of Venom, you might be disappointed by just how little of a role he had in the movie.

KillerGremlin summed up my feelings on a lot of that pretty well...I just got back from it and overall, I thought it was pretty good. Indeed it was over the top cheesy at points, but still a fun movie. I kinda hope they don't make any more movies though especially because McGuire and Raimi probably won't be attached to the project...I'm pretty sure any sequels won't be nearly as good..I'll probably buy all of these when they come out with a special box set or something.

I saw it tonight. It was ok. As people have said before, the 'drama' was laughable. Too predictable and annoying.

But the action was sweet. Worth the €8 ($12) for a cinema ticket.

Edit: By now I think we've seen all the sweet Spiderman action imaginable. He basicly flies in this movie. He's turned half-evil, he's been loved, he's been hated..... Nothing left. Maybe meeting the X-Men. ;)

Spoiler!

*********************************************

Some of the dialogue really turned me off and kind of ruins the legacy that Spider-Man 1 and 2 built. The first and second Spider-Man had subtle humor which was enjoyable, witty, and didn't take away from the drama and seriousness. However in this one, it seems all the humor is just laid right out on the table without any consideration for the mood of the film.

For example...

*serious scene*

*Peter has just saved Mary Jane from falling, checking to make sure she is alright*

(Harry Osbourne in the midst of battle with Sandman): "Am I interrupting?" (followed by goofy grin)

That comment just totally ruins the moment created seconds earlier by Peter and MJ as they're gazing into one another's eyes expressing everything they want to say.

Harry Osbourne was a punchline in much of the movie. From his goofy smiling in the hospital bed. The still painting of the basket of fruit. Etc...

And they also went too far with mocking 'Bad Ass Peter'. The whole scene where he's walking along the streets pointing at girls, smirking, going into the clothing shop, was too long.

In SP2 they did it correctly. Peter loses his powers and is walking along the streets with 'Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head' playing. But it only lasts for a minute maybe. Not too short to miss the subtle humor, but not too long to kill the humorous moment.

Anyways, that was my main complaint.

yeah, I don't like the fact that peter looked like someone from fallout boy.

Loved the movie, didn't like the squeeky voiced venom. Want more story on sandman, and his fam. Harry was a great character.

I didn't think it was cheesy. I mean, any more so than the other spidey movies.

Still, ranks third is spiderman movies. I wanted more "root for spiderman" (shutup bobcat) and less, just plain random action.

Kirstin said if they try to make another movie without Raimi or Tobey, she's out too. So, they will not let that happen.

It was a very good film, but it wasn't quite as good as 1 and 2. I also went to a midnight showing, and they had a giant inflatable wall with velcro that you could climb up.

PS. Mary Jane is a bitch.

Quite a let down. But there was Bruce Campbell and J. Jonah Jameson, so not a complete loss.

It was pretty bad. At one point it looked like Ron Howard's daughter had a "what the hell am I doing here?" look on her face. Then she smiled because she remembered the money.

Man, the jazz club, dancing on the street...what the hell was going on with this movie's production? Some of the dialogue was just....ugh. A total disservice to Venom, 3 villains in one movie was ridiculous. The symbiote just comes out of nowhere, just so happens to land right by Peter Parker, just as he's about to embark on a quest for vengeance, man that was uh...not coincidental at all. They could've had a whole movie on Eddie Brock and Venom. What a waste.

I thought it was alright. I was bugged by little things though.

Such as Venoms voice and the way he talked. I'm so used to Venom referring to himself in the plural and his voice sounding like a few people talking at once.

Funniest part of the movie was when Spiderman was set against the american flag backdrop.

Haha everyone is badmouthing it, however, the jazz club scene is now one of my favorite movie scenes. I love how he completely takes over the "Fever" song from MJ. I also love Peter's transition from ridiculous, greasy-haired emo where girls look at him mostly to mock him, to a well-dressed, highly-styled man.

I eat up Sam Raimi camp. The same camp was in Spiderman 2, so I don't know why everyone complains so much about it now. I don't remember Spiderman 1 so well, so I don't know if the Raimi camp is quite as present.

Hahaha and Bruce Campbell again excellently reprises his role in this movie as the French waiter -- excuse me, maitre d'. I love how even though Sam Raimi has made it big, he still sticks to his roots. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDV4iYyCvIo

Yeah, but that makes sense because he got his memories knocked out of him and he reverted back to an essentially mid-high school Harry Osbourne who didn't remember much of anything about his dad. So along with lots of money he would therefore be pretty carefree.

I. I don't remember Spiderman 1 so well, so I don't know if the Raimi camp is quite as present.

Theres not as much. The most campy feeling is when he's experimenting with his powers and trys to shoot web, and says a bunch of crazy things such as:

" FLY WEB!"

and

"GO WEB GO!"

Don't know why didn't post in here earlier seeing the movie a bit ago.

To make this part short and sweet. Spiderman 3 does not disspell my theory that no superhero movie franchise can go for 3 movies. It happened with Superman. Batman. Blade, x-men and now Spiderman.

Now before I say what disliked about the movie. Gonna say what enjoyed about it. The action scenes were top-notch. I mean some of the best in any movie. And for the most part all served their purpose. The scene with Bruce Campbell was good. And well JJJ as always has some awesome scenes. (For more awesome scenes check out Spiderman 2.1, you see him dressed up in the spiderman costume.)

Now for the negatives.
As far as I'm concerned there has been one superhero movie that has pulled off 3 villians successfully and not everyone sees it that way. (Movie is Batman Begins by the way) This movie does what others don't but till fails. Instead of like forcing all the villians together at the start, it tries to develop their story seperately. The problem then becomes that you are watching three different movies for the first two hours. Then the way all the plots are bought together at the end is retarded. Why o why does Venom need to team up with someone? I mean he doesn't even attempt to fight Peter on his own, give me a break!

Even though he is a really minor character, I really liked Sandman in the movie. My only problem with him... why did Sand fly?

Venom was wasted in this movie. He just did not come off as menacing. I think it would of been a better idea to end the movie when Eddie got the costume in the Church to lead into a 4th sequel sort of like Harry finding his father's stash at the end of 2.

Goblin Jr. well.. was there sometimes.

Then the cheese factor. All the Spiderman movies have their cheesy scenes and some of them work and some don't. Who honestly enjoys Mary Jane running thru the park at the end of Spidey 2?

But this movie just over does it with bad cheese. I mean there are frigggin 2 dance scenes by the main character which go on too long and after a while go from funny to just plain sad. There are two musical numbers in the movie as well. Then there are the speeches.. I hate the superhero moral speeches. This one decided to go against having extended ones... to simply having several of them spread out though the movie. Pretty much any scene with Aunt May in it.

Also, not sure how I feel about changing uncle Ben's killer. However, more importantly than that.. he apologizes.. and Peter just lets him go? He is still a wanted criminal and even if that original offense is cleeared.. he did rob several people in the course of the movie.
