It messed up all my smilies, made easy stuff so much harder to perform (switching avatar etc).... so I dumped it and went back to 8.0.

Anyone else who had this problem?

Don't use MSN. Problem solved.

I'm making a push to use Jabber so these problems don't happen. Only no one seems to want to join me in my pursuit :(

Gekko, practically everyone uses MSN except for people in the US. AIM is only really used there.

Anyways, I dont know what version I have. I think 7.5 or something like that. I see no point in updating it. It lets me talk to people. Job done.

I've been using Trillian to stay in touch with some MSN friends, since it lets you connect to all the different IM programs -- AIM, MSN, Yahoo, ICQ -- with only one login and one program. Which is a lot like Jabber it looks like. I like Trillian but it has some small bugs that are annoying. Maybe I'll try out Jabber.

Jabber is not a IM client, it's an IM server. You can create your own Jabber server, or join an existing one. The beauty of Jabber is that it's open-source software.

So let's say you I use a Mac, and I like using iChat, I can use iChat on any Jabber server. You may choose to use Trillion. Regardless, it becomes the user's preference on what program he wants to use, and on what platform.

I use Google Talk as my Jabber server. I love it! I use iChat to talk, but all my chats are logged in my gmail account. So if we were talking about meeting up, and I lose the directions. I can get online anywhere, and search my chats to find out. Very helpful.

I do love the chat logs. Trillian does the same, though it only saves it to the host computer which can be a problem since I have a desktop and a laptop. But they are a life saver when I can't remember a name or number or an important story that someone told me.

I just use Facebook now if I need to communicate with people?

Anyone here on facebook? Give me your names.

Facebook has been so useful. Like just this last week, I needed to contact a former roommate from a couple years ago, but our friendship has been on the outs recently so I didn't know where she was or which email she still responded to or what. Then I remembered, facebook! It has her current emails plus I can just post on her wall and quickly get her attention.

My name is David Drinnan at Tulane, btw.
