NASA just released some awesome new photos of Saturn and it's rings from several different angles. http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/cassini/main/index.html

Two of my favorites are --

Notice that some of Saturn at the edge between shadow and light is experiencing twilight due to the atmosphere scattering the sunlight, and also that the planet's night side in the southern hemisphere is lit golden by the light reflecting off the rings. How awesome would that be to see from the surface of Saturn herself??? Though I wonder if it would be at all easy to see through such a thick atmosphere.

My other favorite is --

Just very pretty I think. You can see the small moon Janus in the lower left of the image. Interestingly, both these photos are natural color photos, but they're created by combining several different images that were taken with red, green and blue filters. They're all taken by the Cassini-Huygens probe.

Oh, and on second thought, these photos aren't hilarious at all. :p

they are time lapse, long exposure photos of course. You wouldnt be able to see any light otherwise. I wonder what saturn looks like without the composited shots.

Good point. The rings would look much rockier for one.
