This article came out Nov 2 but I didn't notice it at the time. Anyway EA has confirmed that Sims 3 is in the works and that it should be out by April 2009. They didn't give any details as to what to expect but I imagine it will involve nicer graphics and more intelligent sims. Are there any features you would like to see in the next sims game? I think it would be cool for them to include an online component of some kind, but it would have to be handled differently than that abysmal failure known as the Sims Online.

2009 may be a long way off, but i haven't even scratched the surface of what can be done with Sims 2. Plus I'm still playing the original Sims on the side, trying to wrap up some storylines and such for a few of my favorite characters.

And they'll no doubt still piss themselves.

It wouldn't be worth buying otherwise.

I think they need to lessen the dependency of the Sim to the person playing. Eating, bathroom, etc. should all be done by the Sim itself. That's what turned me off from the game. I just want to play God. Manipulate their feelings, lives, environments. And that can already be done. It would just be more fun if you didn't have to deal with the **** on the side like telling the Sim to go the bathroom so it doesn't crap itself, become depressed, and die.

Once you get the hang of it you're pretty much on autopilot with regards to taking care of their needs. Sims are fairly self-sufficient anyway. Left to their own devices they do a decent job of taking care of themselves assuming they're not trapped in disfunctional relationships or have a crappy house layout. There are tricks you can do like build staircases as two together to avoid traffic jams.

The one thing sims will not do on their own is pay bills. For that reason you can only leave them alone so long before the bank repossess the fridge and your sims starve. I once left a family running overnight and the next morning half the furniture was gone and one of the sims was missing. There was no tombstone or anything to indicate he had died. I still don't know what happened to him.

That's possibly one of the best things I've read related to games.

Anyways, I dont think they need to do much, except maybe make it a little more realistic, while at the same time not losing the things such as ghost encounters and aliens.

As people have said, it as if each sim family has it's own god, and is unable to dictate it's own life. I say, if a sim needs to urinate, flow away, good buddy. Just dont piss on the floor and then immediately call over 5 friends and make Spaghetti.

The one thing I dislike, is that it's as if they all have ADHD, but only when they're unhappy. When they're happy, they're fine functioning little pixels. But as soon as they're sad, they'll set the house ablaze because they havent read how to make soup yet, piss on the floor, paint half a painting, play chess by themselves, sleep on the couch, leave the TV on, clean up 2 squares of piss, say they dont want to go to work and then die.

The cleaning is partly related to the sim's personality. If he has a high cleaning score then he is more likely to pick up dishes or mop up piss. I'm not sure if that extends to turning of the tv - sims seem to do that randomly.

Whenever I start a new family the first I make them do is gain two points in cooking because as you said they will burn the house down otherwise.
