Sales for Sony Corp.'s Playstation 3 remain steady in Japan despite strong competition from Nintendo Co.'s Wii and handheld offerings.
Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the PS3 sold 31,436 units from Nov. 27 to Dec. 3.

By comparison, Nintendo's Wii sold 350,358 units and the Nintendo DS sold 176,901 units in the same period.

To date Sony has sold 155,228 PS3 units in Japan. It debuted in Japan and the U.S. on Nov. 17.

Shipment allocations for the product in both regions have been lower-than-expected due a delay in a key machine component.

While Sony forecasts a shipment of 2 million units shipped worldwide by year-end, analysts estimate that the electronics giant will miss its target.

The PS3 employs state-of-the-art technology, including IBM's Cell processor and a Blu-ray disc drive for high-definition format discs.

That is, unless you're talking about the period between Nov. 27 to Dec. 3 (XBox 360 sold that many in a week in Japan?). But then that makes your pie chart pretty misleading.
