View Full Version : Wii update speed?

It took quite a while for me to update my Wii, like 4 or 5 minutes. I'm connecting with wireless, so does that mean that I have a really weak connection to my router?

Or maybe it was because everyone and their mothers were updating their Wii at the same time? Did everyone else get a really slow update speed?

4 or 5 minutes? It took me like 20... And that's not counting it freezing up for an hour and a half before I called customer service and they helped me sort it out (they say not the turn off the system during update, what they mean is if you turn the system off, it will do absolutely no harm at all, you just have to start the D/L over again)...

The servers are just really busy (or at least they were yesterday), so I doubt it's your connection...

Yeah, its not that big a deal though. I assume most updates after the initial purchase will occur during hours after midnight when most people are sleeping.

Random Wii Question: Is there anyway to earn points or do I have to buy them? I really don't want to pay to play those old games.

There's no way to earn Wii points right now. I imagine that's something they'll explore later, but for now I think they've barely got the network running. They're gonna try to stabilize it and add more content before they worry about giving stuff away for free.

Oh wow, I guess I got off easy then. I guess I was just so pumped up to play it that it seemed like forever when updating it.

Questions:

1. If I put a Gamecube game in my Wii, will the graphics be upgraded automatically or will it look the same?

2. What happens if I put a DVD in my Wii?

1. Looks the same.

2. I don't know, but I suspect you'll simply get a 'Disk Read Error' or something to that effect.

At least 1 million people are updating. No wonder they didn't add the News and Weather right away, that would be literal mayhem.

Updates took barely any time for me; 2 minutes at most. Of course, I'm connecting through my AirPort Extreme in my Mac, so it should be pretty fast locally.

I'm still getting an error when I try to agree to the user agreement. This is sucking badly.

Same for me, took mine like two minutes. But those two minutes sure felt like a long time. I guess I shouldn't have complained, though, after looking how long it took for some of y'all.

I'm hooked up through a wireless router to cable internet in Houston, btw. God I'm glad I wasn't in New Orleans at school, internet sucks there all the time regardless of the Wii. Though I can't tell what it is the updates updated.

I got a read error on WiiSports the first time I stuck the game in and was asked to turn the Wii off and on. That was a scary moment, thought maybe I got a lemon.

I think the wii is screwed. Still can't get online after updating.

Calling nintendo for a replacement.

Haven't you tried fiddling around with your settings?

After fiddling around with my settings, I got my DS to connect to my Mac through the Shared Internet option on the AirPort. I copied the settings from the DS to the Wii, and now it works perfectly. I didn't buy anything extra at all; the AirPort comes with every Mac.

what was the update for?

I heard you couldn't save anything on your SD card untill the update is applied. The guys at Joystiq said their Wii (the one they got before the launch for being part of the media) didn't want to let them save anything on ther sd card even tho it did let them see pictures and play songs and video off of it. At least that's one thing it's for.
