When *insert studio name here* announced that the role of Bond would be going to relative unknown Daniel Craig, fans were up in arms, crying and shouting and kicking and screaming like most reasonable people would be in such a terrible situation.

Well, it just so happens that Casino Royale is giving Borat some competition with it's (commercially touted) title of "Best Reviewed Movie of the Year" (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/casino_royale/)... With many people comparing Craig to Connery, and claiming that he is the "Best Bond" since the aforementioned Scotsman, with the movie itself giving the series a successful reboot similar to Batman Begins.

All that said... I just got off work, so I havn't actually seen it yet :>
Was thinking of trying to catch a showing later tonight.

So who here plans to see the movie, who is surprised by the apparent success of Daniel Craig, and who here loves Scotsmen?

Scotsmen are pretty nifty.

I just so happen to be Scottish.

I'm no Bond nut, but upon first seeing the Casino Royale trailer (and knowing from Munich that Daniel Craig can play that type of role really well) I became excited for the movie.

On the other hand, a couple of my friends were whining that he has blond hair now.........

I was just glad there was going to be a different James Bond. Brosnan was great in Goldeneye, which ended up being one of my top 3 007 movies ever (with From Russia With Love and Goldfinger) but the past couple movies were just corny line after corny line.

This one, I'll definately check out.

I liked Pierce's charisma. He was all about the martinis and the ladies and the occasional action sequence. And that charisma…oh man. When I heard Daniel Craig was doing the new Bond, I said, “who the f*ck is Daniel Craig.” When I saw the pictures, well….he didn’t look like Pierce. Now, I was brought up on Connery Bond before I saw Goldeneye, but Goldeneye really stuck with me because A) there was this great video game for the N64, and B) it was a good Bond flick. Honestly, Tomorrow Never Dies was pretty half-assed, but still enjoyable to watch if you didn’t put too much thought into it. I still think The World Is Not Enough is a good Bond film, regardless of what a lot of the critics had to say. And Die Another Day just kind of sucked in general...wayyyy overboard with the corny lines and the special effects. I don’t blame the crappy story or direction on Pierce though, which is the real reason I had a grudge towards Daniel Craig. Good thing I reserved judgment till seeing Casino Royale. The guy wins you over. Maybe 7 minutes into the movie, I’m all like, “yep, this is the new Bond and he’s f*cking awesome.” Maybe 30 minutes in and I’m seeing definite comparisons to Connery. Sure, Pierce was Suave, but Craig has that swagger that Connery had.

At any rate, they didn’t abuse special effects, the plot was a bit drawn out but still entertaining, and the action sequences had some awesome stunts. I want to see Craig in another Bond flick after this little dandy, I just hope they don’t resort to corny space plots and invisible cars. And it couldn’t hurt to make one of the girls a blonde.

Holy ****ing product placement, Batman. That's all I could think of in this movie.

I really loved the film but I think it would've faired much, much better if they called him 008 instead. You know, they could put the 8 on the movie poster so it would look like a giant ballsack, metaphorically, not just a gun.

Quite seriously though, it really didn't feel like a Bond movie, at all. Then again, the original Casino Royale with Peter Sellers was very oddball, too. It just would have been better if he wasn't Bond, rather one of his peers. Like, I would have loved a 006 movie with Sean Bean because he'd be badass in that. That's what I thought of after Goldeneye.

I actually think you missed the point of the movie.

Bond isn't Bond at this point.

He is not the cool, collected and charming man he is in most of the movies. Instead he is the rought exterior of a man.

And a pretty bad ass one at that.

Also, I think this movie follows more closely in the steps of the books than most of the other movies.

And all in all... it was a friggin badass movie.

And an excellent opening animation I need to find.
