Nix this order, and replace it with one that has a 512mb 1900xtx GPU

Yea, something along those lines.

Yea, something along those lines.

Well I actually changed the order to put in the 1900 xtx after doing some research. Its a better card are cheaper than the nVidia equivalent. I also decided to avoid going SLi or Crossfire as I read that single GPU configs actually run BETTER than multi-GPUs on the monitors I prefer to use (anything over 20in is just too much to see without having to constantly move your eyes). In order to get better performance from a multi-GPU you need a crazy high resolutiong and at least a 24in monitor (according to Tom's Harddrive)

Man, I've learned a LOT in the past few days...

Good call on the ATi card. They beat the **** out of NVidia's cards.

i wouldn't go as far as to say that...

Err, nVidia was ahead for almost two whole generations of cards, particularly when SLI hit. nVidia chips still tend to squeeze more performance out of multiple cards.

I got an ATI this time around, but realistically they're not nearly as far ahead as some people seem to think they are. And quite frankly, Forceware > Catalyst.

not to mention ATI just became intel's bitch....

and, we all know ADM has been putting up a stronger front than Intel....

FedEx tried to deliver my PC today, which is fast considering I just ordered it last Friday. I'm very happy with that. I just hope they completed all the necessary testing on the system before they sent it. The again this is the slow time for computer sales (between Back to School rush and the Holidays) so they might have had plenty of time.

I won't be able to collect the item until Friday because of work, but as soon as I boot that son of a bitch up I'll let you know how it runs.

As for Cyberpower, as of right now I'm very happy. That was crazy fast processing. So far the only gripe I have is that they don't update their Order Status webpage vey well. FedEx tried to deliver yesterday, but according the CP's site, they haven't started processing my order yet much less mailed it. I was cought completely off-guard. It was a nice suprise, but still a suprise none-the-less.

ATI was bought by AMD...not Intel

and i also prefer ATI cards to nvidia...

gfx cards go from generation to generation, seems like they alternate who has the top one each time now. IMO with nvidia having a slight edge at the moment.

overall i usually prefer nvidia cards though, because thier drivers are so much better, but i would go either way depending on price/power.

as happydude just said, ATI was bought by AMD, plus, currently intel has the top processors out right now.

for the next few months anyway...until AMDs quatro core is released... i don't know why or who would need so much power.

From what I understand, nVidia has the better software while ATi builds a superior GPU and card. At the end of the day its jusy a pissing contest and the benchmarks measure out miles and the end differences when comparing DX9 and Open is measured in millimeters.

So with comaparable cards nVidia gives me three extra sparks in its particle effects and ATi can push 2 extra polygons... who cares... in the end ATi was $100 cheaper for pretty much the samde damn thing.

it goes card to card, generation to generation. nvidia has always had better drivers imo, but neither builds 'superior gpu/cards' thats a game of 1up, one builds a good one, the other 1ups it, then the other 1ups them in return.

no one saying you picked the wrong card. and actually im pretty sure everyone agree's you picked the right one, havnt seen anything anyone said to say you picked wrong. because i never go for the highest card anyway, i always pick the one best balanced between price/power because i feel it gives you the longest life for the money.

Oh, I wasn't being defensive at all. I did my research and I know I have the best card right now with a single card set up. I was more expressing frustration with how the industry puts so much emphasis on miniscule differences in benchmark tests between comparable cards. In a real world situation, nVidia and ATi's cards are pretty much the same, yet there is so much pressure to say that one or the other dominates the technology. Thats what I'm frustrated at, because I had to do a lot of research to get passed all the propoganda and crap.

Strangler, give us impressions of your new PC. I presume it's arrived. We're all excited to hear how smokin' fast you're blazing through games and other applications. Has it met your expectations or surpassed them?

I'll let you know tomorrow when I unpack and set it up. I'm moving into my GF's house tomorrow and I had it delivered there, so I have yet to realize it's brilliance. I will let you know how it is as soon as I can get my flthy paws on it and test it out. Cross your fingers...

Well it turns out the delivery wasn't for my PC, but was instead some medication for my GF's father. I double checked with CP and they told me they are backordered, but they refunded my Rush Order, so I'm not all that pissed. I'm expecting it some time this week. I'll let you know when it comes in.

ohhh amd and ati, so hawt, my bad there

i have a pretty big amd bias but i enjoy my laptop's intel, amd has been blowing out their processors like crazy lately, you can get a older processor for dirt cheap that will run pretty good right now
