I was just curious as to how many people are planning on upgrading to Windows Vista when it comes out later this year and how many will stay with XP?
I'm probably going to upgrade myself. I just bought an extra 512mb of RAM to bump my sytem up to 1 GB.
Forget about windows, I will be getting OS X Leopard.

XP. I probably won't buy Vista for a year or two once they buff out all the bumps and bugs.
On a side not, it's going to be interesting seeing what happens with Apple. AMD and ATI are pals now. And with dx10 and AMD making chips for PCs....well, we'll see. Compatibility might be an issue, it might not.

I'll probably upgrade. Vista seems to do better from the bat compared to the hell XP had getting off the ground (compatibility issues with older apps, etc..)

i probably will upgrade if i can get it for free. Otherwise, i'm more than happy with XP
getting Vista.. i've held off getting a graphics card because when i upgrade my system i want it to be upgraded to DX10. so that means a DX10 vid card +vista.
plus from what they say, and even the reviews of it thus far all say, its going to be a much better system to run games on.
last i heard tho its coming out early next year, it was delayed from being released later this year.

I'll probably wait to get Vista when I get a new PC later next year. As for Leopard, my soon to be fiance is getting a new Mac laptop soon also, so I'll have the best of both worlds. :D

true, but even how they have been, they're still enough of an improvment over xp to make it worth it. but im just getting it for dx10, everything else is just a bonus. if dx10 was on xp i probably woudnt really care about vista all that much.

What's the best way to back up files and settings prior to performing a reformat?
We've had our PC for about 3 years now and I haven't done a reformat on it yet. I think it's time.

If you have a second hard drive, it's pretty easy to copy all the files. You only need to back up things like music, movies, documents, emails, ect. If you don't have another hard drive you can just go the DVD route...but if you have some 300~400gigs of music like myself, that's a pain.
As far as settings go, there's no real easy way to go about doing that. You can import bookmarks real easy with firefox. And make sure you have all the drivers you need before you reinstall anything.
If you have any super critical settings, like Network stuff, write it down. More oft than not, I find the only difficulty I have is settting up my networks and ISP settings. But computers are pretty smart these days.
Formating sucks. I can't wait for blu-ray when I can dump 20gigs of info on a disc.
