View Full Version : Planned Upgrades

I've been putting off upgrading the forums for quite some time because I didn't want to reinstall all the hacks. GameTavern must grow, however, so we will soon be upgrading to vB 3.6.0. To give you an idea of how far behind we are the version we currently use is 3.0.5. The newer version contains many additional features and is designed in such a way as to allow you to make further upgrades without having to reinstall hacks. All of our current hacks are going to dissappear including the arcade. The good news is we will be installing an even better arcade with more features and newer games. Newer versions of our current hacks will be added gradually.

Once this has been completed we will add top site banner links to increase traffic to the site. We're also going to take another look at how the forums are structured and may reorganize a bit. If people are interested in a new style I may consider that as well. Is anyone interested in something with a white background or is everyone happy with the black? Currently you can select a blue style with a white background from the style menu at the bottom of the forums.

Will Tontie still be there? Or one of the newer versions of it?

As for style, always thought it might be cool to have a tavern type of look to it. Wooden perhaps? Each board would have a different header with a shelf holding bottles of drinks for that system or whatnot.

That would be cool, but would require a lot of custom work. I'd have to pay for it if no one else wanted to do it.

maybe you should filter out the members that aren't active? i would say about 75% of all registered members never even made a single post.

The day a white (any light colored) background forum is the only option, is the day I leave.

I would really like to go back to black and red as the standard.

Can you show us a forum that is currently employing version 3.6.0?

I'd just like to explore and see what to expect.

Well I'm definitely not going to put any work into it if no one wants it. You can make the red style standard by selecting it on the pull-down menu. I don't really see the need for investing in a new style if it's going to be basically the same except red instead of green. There was a scarlet style that was nice but I think it would burn your retinas out after awhile.

Personally I like the Fusion X green that is a choosable style now.

I like the black layout, it's easy on the eyes and I really like the white text on a black background.

My suggestion would be to merge all console gaming into one forum...have one forum for console gaming, one for handheld gaming. less division, easier to navigate through game-related threads. I think it would work a lot better.

Yeah, I've suggested that one before but I guess no one liked the idea. But I totally agree with you. :P

That is one of the ideas under consideration.

I would like a lighter style, like beige or something along thoughs lines, something cheery, and you really shouldnt leave the forums so far behind little script kiddies like myself like to take advantage of the errors that have been fixed :D

Money!! Everytime we post we should earn money!

What a great idea! And it'll bring more people here, make the forum more active!

Wow, I'm a genuis! (edit: no, I'm not going to correct that <<<)

Everytime you post you earn more doubloons. That's as close as you're going to get.

Can we just drop doubloons? Seriously. People here don't care. Oh sure, you'll probably find one or two people here who will claim that they actually use doubloons a lot. But if you just dropped them altogether, I doubt that you'll find even one person who will miss them after a few weeks.

It's not that I have anything against doubloons, and I won't be bothered if the doubloon system is still here after the upgrade. It's just that I don't see why you would waste time and energy on a hack which doesn't seem to provide much benefit.

You can give me your doubloons if you want :D

Eh, just kidding. I don't think I ever used them, except that one time when I went for total control of the world.

I want to bring reputation back. There's a lot of fun to be had with that.

Neo

I recall that being extremely unpopular.

Teuthida

I thought it was quite popular...though for all the wrong reasons...but it was fun.

Yeah, I didn't really care much about rep...but I found it more interesting then doubloons.
Doubloons are just sort of here, not doing anything....like Typhoid

GameMaster

Reputation is used to provide feedback for posts (regardless of how constructive the feedback may be), wage wars, and form underground mafia-style crime rings where the wealthiest members control everything.

My doubloons sit untouched and unseen every single day. But with reputation, I could click the User CP link and check for new reputation messages. Whether they're red or green, it doesn't really matter. The point is it's more stimulating than doubloons. It's the middle man between public posts and private messages. Simple and quick.

I've never cared for dblns, mainly because I've never been able to earn that many, but it seems that it's not really important. I also think that the rep system was better. It was fun in a way.

And I was just kidding about the money thing. I wasn't planning on making mıney by forum posting :)
