Since this gen is slowly winding down (still a bunch of good games to come out, like FFXII, Okami, another SOCOM etc.) I figured I'd ask if anyone here doesnt/hasnt owned a PS2? It has provided, in my opinion, the greatest overall library of games on any system, ever. And I loved my SNES.

I don't. Thank goodness for the GTA ports, and friends. Although I missed out on Twisted Metal: Black. Still, GBA > PS2, at least that's my take on the situation. The PS2 is pretty awesome, controller, games, controller, games...but I fell for Gamecube and then Halo came out. Not that I regret owning a Gamecube or an Xbox, but between those two consoles, and my beloved Counter-Strike, I saw and still see no reason to purchase a PS2. I'm also not big into RPGs, and that is probably the final nail in the coffin.

I kind of want to get a PS2 for Katamari.

I never had one though. The other platform games like Ratchet and Clank seem really cool also.

I have it.
But the only reason I keep it around now is to watch DVD's in my room, and wait for FFXII.

PS2 has dozens of quality games in any genre...only genre another system beats it in is FPS (XBox)

I'd also have to say that the GameCube beats the ps2 in party type games where you just get a whole bunch of friends over and have a good time.

depends on what kind of games your friends like...if they like 'Party' games and kart racing, GameCube wins...if they like First Person Shooters, XBox wins...if they like sports games (which mine do), PS2 and XBox trump Gamecube

I used my N64 for party games way more than my Cube this gen.

Depends on the Sports game. Super Mario Strikers is by far one of the tightest soccer games that has come out. BaB can testify his hours to it. And, personally, Mario Golf is way more fun than any Hot Shots Golf I've played.

and yes, I am aware PS2 is more then RPG games but I'm still not interested in picking one up. Yes, I'd like to play Katamari but the initial console cost isnt enough for me to buy it.

Considering also I havent played a new console game in months literally. PC Gaming is filling my void of console until the new systems hit.

I don't. Wish I did. All those quirky titles I missed on out. Oh well. Just wondering now which next gen system will have those sort of titles. PS3 seems to be more about cinematic games. Wii might be this gen's PS2 in terms of the games I want.

I really do find it hard to believe that any gamer could not own a PS2 this gen. It has far and away the most diversified lineup of titles, and the largest quantity of AAA rated games. I mean, don't get me wrong, the Cube and the Box do their fair share of ass-kicking, but we're talking over 7000 titles available for one system when you consider the PS1 backwards compatability.

So PC Gamers must own consoles also to be considering a "legit" gamer?

I never really liked PS2 much, since I like multiplayer games more than solo games. I've had a PS2 for over 3 years and the only game I play is Winning eleven. I don't regret it though, since its hella fun!

The AAA games that u guys refer to, I played the PC ports (MGS2, the GTA games, etc). Its much easier with a mouse+keyboard than a analog stick.

I think PC has better games than the PS2. Im not sure about the quantity but I can safely guess the PC has more games too. PC games have reached a level of detail that makes most console games feel "kiddy". From my experience, anyone can figure out how to play console games after 1-2 rounds of button-testing etc. For PC games the learning curve is much steeper, this is the key point for me. Remember your first time playing counter strike? Have you ever tried playing World of Warcraft? Theres a lot of stuff you need to know beforehand.

I dont fancy con trollers I perfer the wide open capabilities of a keyboard and the diversitie you can change the controls to make everything much easier...

Certain games warrant a controller. FPS...no. Everything else, mostly. Real Time Strategys and some RPGs are the only game that I think you need to be tied down to a keyboard to play. The argument has been made that Halo players with a controller are equally as skilled as someone with a keyboard. Of course...that's just Halo. I'd like to see someone apply that logic to Counter-Strike.

I owned a Cube, Xbox, and PS2. I sold the Xbox and I don't have any games for the Cube (because I bought it over a year ago for Zelda: Twilight Princess...

My favorite games of the generation (ordered by console, not preference):
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Phantasy Star Online Ep 1&2
Resident Evil 4
Halo
Fable
Suikoden III
Suikoden V
Devil May Cry
Metal Gear Solid: 2
Metal Gear Solid: 3

Games I'm still waiting for:
Zelda: TP
Valkyrie Profile 2
Okami

Game of the generation goes to Resident Evil 4, but I don't feel it was enough to save the GC. Halo was great, but one doesn't need to own an Xbox to play it, if you know what I mean.

Oh yeah, and I bought Fable: LC for PC. It has glitches (non-legible text), but it's got some improvements as well. I have no reason to own Xbox.

The PS2 played DVDs, my old Playstation games (which I value more than my PS2 games), and a decent handful of PS2 games. That's what it took to stay in my room, whether it got played often or not.

Camelot > Klap Handz or however they spell it. Hot Shots 1 (developed by Camelot) was fantastic, and it's been downhill from there. I didn't play 4, I really didn't like 3, I unlocked metal mario in the N64 MG the day before I got HSG 2 (which basically means I did everything there is to do) and I still played more MG from that point on than I did HSG 2.

I dont have one. Never really wanted one, and if I did it would only be for the fighting games. All I got is the cube, and I'm quite satisfied, despite others...
