Its a plane...
No.. its Superman Returns.
Well the movie is out in less than a week and no pre-hype thread.
So figured might as well start one.
My hype for this movie till lays somewhere in the middle. I wasn't too excited for it at first but little by little looking better and better.
And some really good early reviews.

I'm just glad I open on Wednesday. It shouldn't be so crazy busy in the morning as at night...

I haven't seen a single TV preview yet. Nevermind that I watch little TV. I've been to about 30 movies in the past 2 weeks, and haven't seen a single preview.
My opinion? Superman is still at the bottom of my comic character list, but after Batman Begins I'm thinking this will be a good movie.
Snakes On A Plane will rock Superman.

I'll have to watch Batman Begins first. :)

Why? Although it will probably be more exciting. The preivews for superman looked pretty boring...

I'm not excited about it either. The trailers looked stale and I really really don't like Kevin Spacey in the role of Lex.
I've watched a movie 5 weekends in a row now though, so I'll probably catch it on Friday if the review are good.

Can't say I'm a fan of Superman...
When I had a brief stint maintaining AC units in 7-elevens, they had a ton of pictures of Superman plastered all over the fronts of the store, along with the slurpee and big gulp machines...
The guy looked bored in every single picture... You could practically hear him say "Eh, I'm superman..."... I guess that's what passes for supercool toughness these days...
That's my contribution to this thread...

I'm excited. It looks good.

Superman contributed to the fun running joke in Seinfeld, and some clever dialogue in Kevin Smith's Mallrats. Other than that, I'm more of a Marvel comics fan.

This would be why there was not already a hype thread...
Anyway, I'm excited. I wish SInger had chosen to start new, though, rather than try to continue from Superman I and II. I'm afraid it'll just reek of "Look at my movie! Its just like the other movies!" I'd have rather had a fresh take.

Well I saw the movie earlier in the day.
Figured give myself a little time to disgust the movie. I mean granted should be longer than a few hours but eh.
I will say this much right off the bat, the movie exceeded my expectations so for those of you who were/are lukewarm towards the movie due to the trailers or commercials. I say give it a chance.
Well I guess I will start with the negative as they always seem to be the easiest to remember. Also gonna give a spoiler warning.
One is the idea of it being a sequel to part one and two but only playing with certain aspects happening in part two. It gets a little confusing.
The ending. The final battle's climax was rather anti-climantic I thought. And I kind of felt the hospital scene was a waste personally. I mean he is friggin superman.
The lack of background info. We are told superman has been gone for 5 yrs and we know he went in search of Krypton. And we have an idea how he got the info. But they never show him there nor do they expand or explain the original idea that luthor planted the info to get superman away.
The fact that Superman and Clark Kent both return the same exact day and no one bats an eye at that?
Other than that don't think had any major problems with the movie.
Now the good.
The action pieces, there are actually very few of them. Its actually a lot like the first movie.
There is the rescue scene this time a helicopter is replaced with an airplane. There is the crime stopping montage. And then there is the final earthquake causing land scam. There also is a very brutal battle in the climax. Where Superman took a legit thrashing.
The plot was decent. Its a comic book movie.
Though i must say Luthor's opening scene was pure genius.
The cast I enjoyed in their role. It was sad that Cyclops had more to do in this movie then he did in the X-men ones.
all in all it was a fairly enjoyable movie. Below Batman Begins and spiderman 2 in my book, probably tied with X2.

Would you mind explaining how the movie only chose certain aspects of the second movie? I'm not very intimately familiar with the original movies, and couldn't really notice anything that wouldn't mesh well or anything.
Anyway, I thought it was alright. The biggest complaint I have, really, is the length, and that they didn't start over. I'd rather the series start over than try to continue only part of a 30 year old storyline. This movie just felt like Bryan Singer was trying to redo the old movie, rather than trying to create something new...

I think they didn't start over because the superman story has been told out in movies, TV shows, comics and cartoons so many times that it'd just be way too predictable... They could have tried to rewrite/edit history like with batman begins, and just thrown some better special effects on it, but meh. :p
I liked the movie personally, makes the old superman movies look absolutly horrible
