Are post counts really all that necessary? They just promote spamming and create a false sense of authority for those who have high ones. You can see how taking it away gets rid of a lot of spamming in the Starmen.net and GSArchives.com forums. What's your opinion on the issue?

What are you talking about? Bow down before me and my high post count.

J/K :p

But I dunno about it... *shrugs* Uhhhh lotsa forums have them... I guess it could help cut down on post cramming, although around here it seems like the only person who does that is leatherface ;) :sneaky:

Your post count does say something. Other members know if the person is a spammer, and if he's not but he does have a high post count, that's a good thing.

I think Jin just wants to get into the black project forum. I dont think the post count for it should be so high. Jin has been here since the begginging and he cant get in cause of his post count.
I think it should be 500 posts and you have to be a member for more than a year

Post Counts are a way of knowing how old a member is... and after a certain amount of posts respect is acctualy gained.

Like DeathsHand and myself, we are number one and two in post counts, we haven't exactly been here longer than everybody, but people know that we are among the biggest posters of all time, and neither of us spam.

w/o post counts, they couldn't tell DsH from a newbie who just got his first post. Also, not only that, post counts give members somthing to look forward to when posting. Dedicated members should be seperated from newbies, and post counts allow this.

He is TheGame, just under another user name.

Sorry Jin, I like the post counts. It's helps to define and sustains some amount of order. Without the order, this forum wouldn't have lasted long...

No, and we have had this discussion before. Post counts are more then post (counts). They are an identity of the person. Sure if somebody spams they will be warned and maybe later get banned. Their post will be deleted and thats the end of that.

Back to that identity thing. A post count is something that is vital for some. I can pass judgment on certain people by how many post they have compared to the time they have spent here. This tells me maybe they post cram a lot or have a lot to say (keep in mind its ussualy the first). This helps me crack down on post cramming (given that not only do they do it for post count but for being everywhere so they become popualr).

Some people also take pride in how long they have been here. And people who are proud are happy, and happy people keep posting in the forum. What dose that mean? More post for them and the forum, and as that goes up more pride...etc. (see the circle).

A post count is a dedication to our older members. Like BJW said, DH is a great post (ussualy) that dosnt spam (at least not since the early ndose days) and his post count gives him that recognition (and the opportunity to say "Bow down").

Lol! Post counts don't mean -edited- to me. I was originally at Nintendose, then came here. All in all, I've been here for around a year or two and only have 750 posts. Talk about a slow poster....

Jin

I don't really know where to stand on this issue. Post Counts give members a false sense of authority, and also promote spamming. But on the other hand, without them people wouldn't feel a need to post, making the forum slow and may even be the reason for it's closure.

It would probably be best to keep things the way they are, and not make the same mistake as the new Zelda. Why fix it if it's not broke? We don't really have too big of a problem with spam here anyway, the mods and admins are doing a great job of keeping things under control.

i don't think it separates newbies from veterans, i think it separates spammers(or non spammers but ppl who post a lot) with the ppl who don't post as much. wut separates newbies from veterans is the "Registered: Month Year" thing.

Well saying that, i reckon Date Registered would be more or less a sign of how long you have been here.

I think i am 3rd highest poster or something like that anyhow.

Well I got a fairly high post count but I don't post cram....in fact I've been here longer than some people and they have a higher post count than I do. I mean look a Kitana.....she's been around here for a long time and she doesn't have that many post counts...in fact if she wasn't a mod I would think that she was a fairly new member. So sometimes post counts can be deceiving.

And post counts don't separate vetrans from newbies ...not really....Look at BAB he came hear after me and has more post counts than me and he didn't post cram.....when he first came he replied to nearly every topic and made fairly long posts....and look at his post count now. :D So yes sometimes post counts show you who is new and who isn't but there is always some exception. :D

I think the bottom line on this subject is:

Who cares.

There are plenty of more important things that you could be worrying about other then your post count.

Ok, lets get this straight. You dont have to worry about your or other post count. Sometimes it helps pick out the spammers or post crammers by looking the post count the register date and then there history of post. Other times it gives others a chance to get more post by posting in a topic about post counts.

You post like 9 times in a single bloody thread. If you have that much to say, go outside and talk to someone for god sakes.

You post cram every forum you visit, Ndose is another great example, you have 100 posts in just under a week.

You got it mixed up. I think you are the second person.

I was never a heavy poster when I first came to these forums. I had only 10 posts in my first 3 months here. From like August still the end of 2001. That is when my post count balloned. It's pretty much slow downed since the start of this year.

So, he's into it. Is there something wrong with that? No, I don't think so. He helps keep the activity going and his posts aren't meanlingless like those of people such as our recently banned friend, Leatherface.

Now, as long we're analyzing posts and statistics, let's jump over to E_Petit's account...

His first post at Nintendose and I quote: "Head Mod Please."

My thoughts: About everyone that applyed but E_Petit has been hired since the making of this sorry plea.

His "Retirment Speech": "So from here on out, i am no longer moderator and most likely going to stop visiting this site, i have an account at PVG and AGB if anyone wants to talk to me... but until then. Cheers.

Neo's Thoughts: "Don't worry, he's not gone. Even though he's logged out he's still been viewing this thread as a guest, or so the IPs tell me. Please continue giving him the attention he needs."

So tell me again, why exactly are you here bothering Shooter? Is it because you don't like him or you want everyone to see your new, recently constructed signature, "www.purevideogames.com/forums, 4 out of 5 former GT Moderators Agree" , or as Neo put it, you need some attention? :D

WHo in the hell are you? Oh yea your the Man.... or wait, was that the woman? no, asian woman, no, caucasion man.

Oh hell it's to confusing,

Anywho, Lets start with your analysis of my ndose post, do you think if i honestly cared about Ndose that i would make such a general post?

And as far as neo goes with his comments about me, regardless of him being Admin of this site or not, means less to me then your opinion.

And the fact that you can sit their and say " He doesn't post cram" makes you blinder then shooter himself, the fact that he has more posts in the last 3 months then most people at this site has over all i would consider that a pretty safe sign that he is post cramming. To sum it up :

If and when he makes posts of replies of 2 sentences or less, or makes absolutley no progress to the discussion at hand, it's considered post cramming.

And about the signature, i guess you don't realize what it means is pretty much true..... but you wouldn't know about PVG, would you? i am pretty certain James banned you on the advice of members.
