XBox still getting raped in Japan

Well the Japanese can be really stubborn.

If it's not Japanese they wont buy it (or more like if its american, they wont buy it)

It's just the X-Box has too many American games. You never know, things could change. *cough*

PS2 had a price drop in Japan (29,800 yen). And the GameCube is already cheap (25,000 yen). The Xbox is a heifty 34,800 yen over there. (39,800 yen for the Special Edition one!)

I was at Amazon.co.jp to see what Japanese gamers who bought the system seemed to think of it. Every reviewer gave it either 4 or 5 stars. Most "fell in love with the controller". One guy was really looking foward to Halo. Another happy Xbox owner was amazed at the article he read about how the Xbox would scratch the discs but he had no problems with his. Liked how it doesn't need to use memory cards (calls it cost conservation), and all the other options like ripping music.

Well, it's good to hear that the people that have bought their Xbox's are happy with them. But I still want to see hardware and game sales up there with Gamecube at least...

It's so true. You never see an asian person buying a Ford. They always go for the Hondas, Mitsubishis, and Toyotas.

That's because it's extremely difficult (like not even worth the effort) to get foreign products into Japan. Not to mention their economy isn't so hot, so they need all the domestic stuff they can get.

But look at it the other way. How many Americans like Ford? Well, obviously a ton. Mustangs outsell Camaros 4 to 1, the F150 is the best selling full-size pickup, and the Ranger is the best-selling compact pickup *points and laughs at Chevy fans* ;) Still, everywhere you go you here people ripping on Ford, judging their reliability when they don't own one (real grown-up, huh?), and Americans rip on domestics because they aren't reliable past 100,000 miles. So if Americans rip on their own cars and praise imports, why would Japan want American cars?

But in reality, Japanese is a completly different culture. Their tastes in games are completly different, they actually like Samba de Amigo, and ain't so big on realism, and gore. Hell, look at the Japanese sales charts, some of the best-sellers would do horrible here. Xbox is a system which is geared to teens and young adults, but more specifically, America's youth. It's not a system that will catch on well in Japan, because it's not geared towards the Japanese interests, as much as it is ours.

Hell, look at Gamecube in Japan. Animal Forest, Animal Leader, Doshin, all games that are very Japanese-oriented. They can bring them over here, but they won't be chart-topping titles. Not saying they're not good, but they aren't the types of games Americans jump on. Hell, look how many people questioned Super Monkey Ball and Pikmin before they played it.

Gear a console towards Americans, and you're not going to do well in Japan. Simple concept, people have been predicting it since Xbox was announced.

If your thinking that Danchastu posted screen shots of Gun Valkyrie, your wrong. And Gun Valkyrie doesn't really suck, it's just hard and the controls need some work.
