At a news conference in Osaka, Nintendo senior managing director Yoshihiro Mori said the Wii would sell for 25,000 yen ($220) or lower in Japan and $250 (£133) or lower in the US.

Keep in mind, the unit could very well have two controllers like people are suggesting, so $250 at most is a deal.

everyone knew their system would be hella cheap.

Honestly thats not that cheap., especially when you compare hardware components. At $250 your looking at only $50 less for half the muscle of a 360. I was thinking they would be shooting for $199 or maybe even a little less. $250 would be a big mistake, IMO.

well I was kinda thinking it was a cheap number in itself lol

but if I think about it harder, i'd have to say $250 for a controller is pretty expensive.. I mean you've got Wii games that look a "weeeeee-bit" better then the GameCube. The only real advance for nintendo this next generation is the controller and gameplay.

so yeah... $250 is a bit costly for a controller upgrade.

I suspect $250 will be a premium model with an extra Wii-mote and nunchuck, possibly the "light"-gun add-on, the classic controller, and maybe a download of each game type on the virtual console. The way it's worded makes me think there will be a premium model at any rate.

But if not, I agree it's a bit steeper than I expected.

has there ever been a nintendo console NOT released at $199 ? i thought all the others were.

and i wouldnt call it cheap either, its much more affordably priced, but not cheap.

im gunna guess when it comes out it'll be for 199, or at the very least have a package at 199 and another bundle with a game and extra controller for 250

Affordable is a relative word.

I agree with Professor S. 250 is still an investment. The 360 and the PS3 are both more expensive, but the PS3 is going to be shooting out some fantabulous graphics, and it will have blu-ray support.

Seeing as how I have no serious interest in the 3 consoles as of yet, I would personally wait until there was a price drop or two for all the consoles.

relative is a relative word. that means nothing.

im not using the word affordable as in terms of what people can afford. many people can afford much higher with not even a blink of thought going into it, thats not the point. what im saying is in the general range of consoles, that would be considered an affordable price. while 600, no matter if its a lot of money or not to you personally, is expensive for a console.

you can't say much about the 360 yet because once developers start on the path of HD-DVD and they release the peripheral for it... then you'll know just how much you invested in the 360

I don't want to watch HD-DVD movies on my 360.

Agreed. I think the vast majority of console buyers purchase consoles solely for games, with movie watching a distant afterthought.

$250 is a little high for the Wii. $200 makes more sense.

$250 makes me feel like I'm getting a better product. I know it sounds n00b but it's the truth. Doesn't raw inflation take account for this price though? I mean, it can't be the same price as the N64.

If it's not $200....

I agree with you GM, me and BAB were having a conversation about this the other day. I also think one of the reasons the ipod does so well is because of it's price point. But hey, I could be wrong.

Nintendo won't make any mistakes with the price. And for once and for all, The Wii isn't a controller upgrade to the GameCube.

are you saying that sales would be lower if it was priced, say 20% less?

i really think the iPod has done well because of its advertising/marketing and product quality

product quality?

Meh I've purchased 2 iPods, and have had battery problems with both, and have also had many friends have the same battery problems. I bought a Sony Network Walkman, never had a problem with it. I even dropped it and dented the case and it's still working as normal.

I think the advertising/marketing is great, that's about it.

i dissagree, i have 2 ipods, a video and one of the originals. never had any problems. and outta all the people i know with em, only 1 ever had a problem which was resolved quickly. They without a doubt are good quality.

that said, nothing is ever problem free, many people have had problems with ipods, but just like many have had problems with your sony walkman too.

Thing is, the bigger your userbase is, the more your going to hear about thoes problems over products with smaller user bases.

if i had had your problems i'd probably of gotten a different mp3 player myself. but thats just luck of the draw i guess.

The sound quality bugged me. This current generation of ipods has greatly resolved sound issues, but earlier ones bothered me. And the default ipod headphones suck balls too. I'm not a hardcore audiophile, although I do notice the difference between 128, 192 and 320 encodings, but I was never impressed with the sound quality until this generation.

Which means this is a pointless post as the issue mostly has been resolved. However, my 60 dollar Sony walkman still delivers better bass and sound quality than the current ipod on the market.

Well put yourself in my situation. You buy one Ipod 20Gb, after 13 months of using it, the battery only lasts for about 5 minutes then dies after being charged.

Then I bought another 6GB one, the iPod would randomly pause 7 days later. Was a real pain to get it replaced. Eventually I got a new 6GB mini again, and about 7 months down the track battery problems. Would be 1/4 left and then it'd just die.

It got stolen (which was the best thing that could have happened to me). I bought the Sony Attrac3 Network Walkman, and have had no problems at all.

I understand what you're saying, luck of the draw etc. But there was no way in hell I'd buy another iPod. And I am telling everybody I know about my experiences so that they are aware. I do think that Itunes is better than Sonic Stage, however I also think that Attrac3 sounds a bit better than Mp3. From my experience, the iPod unit is problematic.
