The movie is finally coming to DVD in North America on August 29. I think the cover art for the VHS version looks better than the one for the DVD though. Even though I have a feeling that this will lack any prominent special features, it's better on DVD than VHS. *shrugs*

A boy and his two friends run away from home and hitch cross country to compete in the ultimate video game championship.

Ah... those were days. The good ol' eighties. Now everyone just camps at home in front of their new-fangled instant messengers and compete in tournaments online. Where's the fun in that, I say!

Im pretty sure that movie came out in the early 90's GM, but I could be wrong. Anywho, the Wizard is a classic american film.

Late 1989, actually. That was actually when I got an NES of my own. Okay, yeah. I was a late bloomer.

Ah yes, who could forget that wonderful 100min Nintendo commercial.

"I love the PowerGlove. It's so bad!"

Ahh, The Wizard. A true classic, really.

Plus the one of the only opporunities to see a prepubescent Jenny Lewis in action. Hot. I'm not sure if it's okay to say that, but she's like 28 now and a beautiful full grown woman, so I think it's cool.

You know, I never got to try that out. Does anyone even know just how in God's name that thing worked? Also, I got an NES of my own around the same time The Wizard came out in theaters. Yeah, I know. I was a late bloomer. People like Lucas had about 97 NES games, and all I had at the time was a Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt cartridge.

The DVD will be an anamorphic release if anyone is wondering. Today I found myself wondering if it would just be a fullscreen release, but I recently read what the deal is at davisdvd.com.

Also, remember that girl Jenny Lewis from the movie? She's in an indie band called Rilo Kiley. This is what she looks like now:

She couldn't buy us a new drum, so instead she gives us a great set of bongos! :stud:

Okay I put my VHS copy up for sale at amazon.com on Friday night, and it got snagged yesterday. I hope I don't come to regret this. I might not, but oh well.

Well this one will be rather barebones all right. Just look at the main menu for the movie:

It doesn't even have a scene selection feature.
