I'll try to put this in point form:

-Yes, it was confirmed "region-free"
-No, it only applies to games.
-One of the major points about buying PS3 will be Bluray movies, which is what Sony wants you to buy it for.
-If you import a PS3 from another country you'll also have to buy all your movies from there.
-Basically, most people won't want to buy a PS3 AND a Bluray player. So they'll suck it in and buy this more expensive PS3. Most of them.

They'll be forced into lowering their prices. Not enough people are going to shell out that kind of cash.

i think people need to remember that the large majority of Playstation owners are not kids who ask their parents to shell out money for videogames, but instead people who save their own money...

not necessarily saying that PS3's will be flying off shelves for years, though...

Poor Europeans. At least they can laugh at Australia, where it'll be priced around $1000.

That's why I put it in the first two lines. But I guess your attention span only permits you one line. ;)

Does it occur to anyone that the EURO is worth more than the dollar, there fore people make just a bit more money on an average base then in the US?

Someone making 8 dollars an hour here...
Someone making 8 euros an hour there.... is a bit more.

everything is more expensive where the currency is worth a lot more. Things is japan are more expensive here, for example a Nissan Skyline is a couple million yen, close to 70k.

But people are selling these things for 90 and up in the US.

Do you post on GAF?

Because someone made a post scaringly similar.

And for the record, judging by reactions of Europeans on forums. It is a high price as well.

hey :(

Jeez, I don't think there's much point trying to justify costs for me. I have a home loan now, I Ain't gonna shell out over $700 AUS for a PS3, Xbox360 or Wii!

Bah.... all this talk about pricing... eventually the costs will go down and everyone will be able to own PS3.

It's the people who buy it at launch that are the ones who are like die-hard about their stuff..

(Me included)

I want a Ps3, but the thing is some people can't afford to buy all consoles. If the Xbox360 and Wii are out at the same time as Ps3, offerering many games at a significantly cheaper price, Sony will lose out.

However with that said, many Sony fans will purchase the Ps3 no doubt, if it means shelling out that much money for one at launch, or waiting till it gets cheaper. They have a HUGE fan base. I am pretty sure all 3 consoles this time around will provide for the markets they are aiming toward.
