Apparently Desert Storm is on it's way...

From the Guys @ IGN...

April 10, 2002 - Battersea, London-based SCi says that a GameCube version the cross-platform Conflict: Desert Storm will be brought to retail across the United States by none other than Take Two, car-jacking publisher extraordinaire.

Granting exclusive North American publishing rights to Take Two, the agreement secures for SCi a guaranteed income, sales dependent royalties, and marketing commitment (not the kind that fizzles after the first week of passion either).

The result of this deal is that Conflict: Desert Storm, the third-person Gulf War actioner, is now to be released simultaneously on the PC, Playstation 2, and Xbox in September of this year, with the GameCube version following a few months later. SCi will also bring a PC version of The Italian Job, released for the PSX already, stateside, but there is no word on whether GameCube or any of the other platforms will also see a port.

Jane Cavanagh, Chief Executive of SCI commented:

"We are very pleased to continue our relationship with Take Two. Anticipation for Conflict: Desert storm is very high. We believe that this agreement gives us the basis for a very exciting worldwide release. This agreement will form an important component of our results in the 2002 financial year."

As its name suggests, Desert Storm is straight out of the Iraqi conflict, circa 1991. This third-person squad-based shooter thrusts players headlong into the Gulf War as members of either the elite Special Forces SAS or Delta Force. Behind enemy lines and with dangerous orders ever flowing down the pipe, gamers will have to infiltrate, eliminate, and exfoliate in one militarily sound swoop. Neutralizing targets such as the heavily guarded "baby milk factory" and the toxic fume spewing "flower nursery" are just some of the types of engagements planned.

As a soldier, it will be important to not let the blazing Kuwaiti sun or veil of darkest night keep you from launching your rockets, flaming vehicles, and night-visioning your way through stealthy assaults, rifle and plastic explosives in hand.

More than just purely aesthetic sheen, Desert Storm also boasts real world physics that come applied to bullets, vehicles, and other objects with the intention of*delivering a more believably reactive experience. Seamless transitions from indoor to outdoor environments, as well as dynamic lighting that progresses from day to night, thus altering tactics, is also planned.

Sounds pretty good, yes? We think so. We'll have more information as it becomes available.

Well, there you have it. I'm somewhat excited, yourself? :D
