View Full Version : Best Eł ever for Nintendo fans? (Be warned: fanboyism!)

I simply LOVE it. :D
It started with the bad Sony news. Expensive, no rumble and they half-copied Nintendo. All pointed and laughed at Sony. :p
Then the Nintendo press conference which was good. Then the incredible waiting lines for the Wii. Then Super Smash Bros and other surprises.
The positive articles from newspapers. Suddenly Nintendo is accepted as a serious contender this round.
Massive support for it too.
Yep, definately best Eł for me. Even beats the GameCube one (I was at family in France, I printed the picture of the controller there.... it was exciting but not half as good as this).
Your thoughts?
Well it's pretty obvious what my thoughts are. :sneaky:
But I definitely didn't write off the 360. In fact, I'm buying one tonight now because I'm so excited for Gears of War and Phantasy Star Universe. They'll be awesome.

After E3, I'm considering only buying a Wii... Based on it's speculated price-point and my waning interesting in gaming...
But boy my heart's gonna be torn if and when they reveal Silent Hill 5 for the PS3...

Unbiasedly, Nintendo had a good E3. Their conference should've had videos of SSB and other titles that people screamed for instead of waiting until later to show them.
This is one of the best E3's Ninty has ever had. Not everyday do they get praise like this.
Sony: They showed what they were going to do. They showed how great the grpahics are, among other things. Its just going to be hard for a good amount of people to stomach $600 for it.
Microsoft: They showed they are still in this race and that the 360 can do damn well for its 2nd gen games. I'll consider a purchase at some point, just not yet...

Can somebody point me in the direction of getting the Microsoft press conference?
Nintendo made the most impact no doubt. Not just with the Wii, but the crazy amount of DS games.
I really wanna see the Microsoft one!
Do you have gamespot complete or IGN insider?

I remember the E3 before the Cube.......oh man look at that thing! It's gonna rock Sony's socks!
I won't jump the gun and say Nintendo is going to "put Sony in it's place" or anything.
But I will say, 5 years from now, we'll see where we are 5 years from now.

Even though I didn't really watch any of the presentation shows, I had a lot of fun here at GT reacting to all the news.

I don't remember people saying "Nintendo will rule over Sony with the Gamecube". I think people gave the GC the same reception they did with Sony this time around.

I don't think so. The only major complaint I remember being lodged against the cube was the small discs which prevented it to be used as a DVD player.
I really want my new Zelda, I'm so mad Nintendo is waiting till the holiday season to release it and not summer! grrr...

heh, no, gamecube got a lot of hype building up for it. i also remember people saying how much better it was going to be then PS2 or Xbox. it got very much like the reception nintendo is getting right now. nintendo is good at having a solid e3 before a console release, because they're always showing something different that gets people talking. whether or not it works out later on is another story, but they do get people talking.
im waiting till i actually get to try it before getting any hopes up.

I can't remember things like that but if it happened, then I don't recall...it was 5 years ago so I probably can't think straight at the moment.

No, yeah Gamecube definately got hype...
Although it was mostly with Nintendo fans... "GLORY DAYS OF SNES!", that sort of thing...
But I definately see Nintendo having more potential to return to the "GLORY DAYS OF SNES!" this time around than they did with the cube... Sony's taking some big risks, Xbox caught on more than most people were expecting it to, and Nintendo's introducing something that COULD become the "next big thing", while at the same time being quite a bit cheaper than it's competitors (despite Nintendo saying they're not directly competing)...
Still though, we have to see how it all works itself out...
Edit: I realize Nintendo is also taking some rather big risks by introducing a controller so radically different, etc... But when I was referring to Sony "taking big risks", I was using it as a kinder way of saying "big mistakes"...

Ahh ok. Nintendo fans will always be Nintendo fans. Same with Sony and now MS. Some are more crazy then others.

I wouldn't say it was their best ever, but they showed up with some good stuff. There were cool titles for all systems, but overall none of the systems stood out as being particularly better than the others in my mind (except for maybe the DS which really has a ridiculously large amount of great titles on the way).
There were 3 games at E3 that made me go "wow", and they were Metal Gear Solid 4 (PS3), Super Mario Galaxy (Wii), and Lost Planet (Xbox360).

I've once read a story that a lot of Xbox fans were only fans of the superior graphics, not of the Xbox itself.
They used to be the ones who had a N64 because it (often) had better graphics than the PSX. When the PS3 comes out, they might lose interest in their old 'n dusty 360.
At least that's what I heard.... :p

Well the thing is, the PS3 will visually be as powerful as the 360. Anything further is stuff you can't see.
I'd love to hear EB employees just get fed up and tell them to get the Wii. :sneaky:

Yup I agree with Null on this one, Ninty is usually great at the conferences but their after marketing strat usually sucks. I'll wait and see how they market the Wii before I make any predictions about it's success.

i know this thread warns of fanboyism.... and boy does it ever wreak of it... lol
but my brother went to E3 with his friend who works for a newspaper in LA, and told me that the hall for Microsoft was scarce throughout the event and had maybe close to a hundred people there, while Nintendo and Sony had all the press lined up.
I guess it's because they were unveiling and Microsoft was just adding.
But I'd also like to mention that just because $600 is expensive for one person doesn't mean it is for the next.... I know the majority may think it's expensive, but there are a lot of people in Japan and US who will spring for the latest technology. The people who buy HDTV because it's clearer then regular TV... are the people who get the PS3 cuz it's more visually stunning, then the PS2. People will always upgrade whether at a high cost or not. This just seperates the loyalists from the nay sayers.
If you've got people spending $300-500 even close to $1,000 for Video cards on their PC..... you'd think there are people out there willing to spend that much on a whole gaming package.
^ You know those same "people" you keep talking about bought the CD-i when it launched. It sold 567,000 and was a mere $400 initially.
Of course it's all about the games, but what you're arguing is that some people are going to buy it. This is true. There are a ton of idiots with money. We get it. If they have that type of money though, they can easily buy Wii and Xbox 360, too.

sure they can easily buy Wii and 360, but it's not about if you have the money spend it, it's about spending it on a valued product. PS3 will feature a lot of new toys that people will want and appreciate while with 360, sooner or later developers will need the extra storage on the disc to create more content, and you'll eventually have to spend an extra $200 for the HD_DVD Peripheral.

i disagree...do you remember what XBox 360 games looked like a year ago at the same stage the PS3 is at right now? wasnt as impressive...titles look a lot better in the 2nd year after the system's release

Wanna put your money where your mouth is? I'll bet you that on January 1st 2010, the PS3 will have sold more units than XBox 360 and Nintendo Wii (not combined, but more than each)
I know that's a long ways away but I would guaruntee I would not back out of the bet...

Basically is Blu-Ray sky rockets, people will be flocking to buy the PS3 because the stand alone player is so expensive... and the value of the PS3 just gets hotter and hotter..
Still want that HD-DVD peripheral for Xbox360?

That's if the blu-ray sky rockets.
I think there are too many factors to take into to consideration to even announce a clear cut winner at this point in time. But I guess this is part of the fun next gen, making predictions. :)

It's not about just the BDR HD Movies it will be delivering. It's about the games as well. Blu-Ray will skyrocket nonetheless, whether in games or movies. Developers will love the freedom they have to create compelling content.. It adds more value to the purchase of a game. Microsoft will be hearing cries from their developers cuz they want more room on their Discs, so either way if BDR wins or loses in the next-gen platform, Microsoft will inevitably have to adopt their HD-DVD peripheral, forcing current owners to shell out another 200... because face it, once HD-DVD goes mainstream, all the games will go on HD-DVD cuz of the storage capacity and so you will NEED to buy it for the Xbox 360 for 2nd gen games. While with the PS3 you will have all you need out of the box.
in essence, the xbox 360 will have cost near the same as the ps3 when the HD-DVD makes it presence known to Xbox 360 gamers, and where will the "cheaper then PS3" fit in?
The only system that is CLEAR CUT cheaper is the Wii at this point. The X360 was priced lower only because peripherals were held back on it, eventually though... HD-DVD & BDR will become mainstream for their respective consoles, with PS3 owners having already a BDR player and Xbox 360 owners having to buy one to play 2nd gen games. All in all I'd say the value and price of PS3 and Xbox 360 are pretty much the same.

It'll be awhile before developers for the 360 force people to use HD-DVD. My guess is that 2 versions will be released similar to how PC is now. Larger the game, the more standard DVDs (or in PC's case CD's) it takes due to HD content taking up a crapload of room. But if you dont want to be swapping DVDs sometimes, you get the HD-DVD version and just have a single DVD to deal with.
