LONDON -- To the United States, he is a seriously dangerous man who put the nation's security at risk by committing "the biggest military computer hack of all time."
But Briton Gary McKinnon says he is just an ordinary computer nerd who wanted to find out whether aliens and UFOs exist.

I don't think he's a terrorist, but his actions are a threat and are also illegal. He should have to deal with consequences for his actions. Should he be tried as a terrorist? No. Just tried as an idiot.

read about this about 2 weeks ago, i think that what he did was kind of bad, but i also think that people need to know the truth. if he were being tried, i would just let him choose to either pay the fine OR to serve his sentence in jail, but not both. i mean, the only damage that was done was not significant, otherwise they would have made a huge deal about it. but they made a big deal of him accessing the network not damaging something.
i think in a sense what he did is justified by the fact that we all know the US government is hiding a lot of stuff from the world (or maybe just from the public) and i think the public has the right to know what their government is up to.
but that's just me.
