I remember we had like 3-4 chat sessions before. But that was like a year ago

why not just put a chat up on the homepage again? I know weve gone through several of those. Anyone remember the one where you could choose a littler person and draw and stuff? Almost like pictochat...

yes a chat would be very convenient... especially in busy hours where everyone is on.
chats always die out in a matter of weeks

I agree with Neo. They're fun when they're new but then they die off pretty quickly.

But never the less I think it will increase activity if not for a little while. Plus its neat to chat with other members that you have little or no knowledge of.

I remember at NintendoDolphin.net we had a weekly chat and that worked out well and was quite fun. Think it might keep the chat going longer than having it open always and hoping people will be there.
The biggest problem is that we all think it'll die off eventually, and don't bother to join the chat. I think we should all give it a try, it just might catch on..
The weekly chat is a very good idea.

All you need is a good server and a channel and a bot.

Hey, I'm the owner of DigitalAddiction, a small group of individuals that have interests primarily in computer related topics. I am also a friend of gameMaster, and I happened to catch the thread requesting an IRC chat; it Just so happens that DigitalAddiction has a small closed IRC network. I can offer GameTavern a channel on my network. The post made by GameMaster with the Java applet should work fine with my network, however for better reliability you should use a real client like mIRC to access the network. If you need any more information related to our sever, please contact me. I will be happy to aid you.
I will request that anyone joining the chat to idle on the network instead of leaving, since many people connect and shortly leave due to the ‘emptiness’. I'm thinking if someone hangs around a little so the next user to join can see a (hopefully) familiar name and may stay a bit little longer. I know it is not a whole lot. Nevertheless I hope everybody will at least attempt to have patience and give it a chance to start off.
As posted GameTaver's IRC (http://home.comcast.net/~synthoid/irconline/)
Thanks for the opportunity to help out.
I hope you enjoy :)

Running IRC is no biggie guys, in fact, if you use a program like Trillian you can run AIM and IRC at the same time, one program. Idling isn't that big of a deal. Doesn't take up ram, and if you see conversation you jump on it.

This is going to be great. Imagine having the ability to chat with GT friends 24/7! It's simple, easy, and fun. Simply use an IRC client or the java page provided to join the GameTavern IRC channel. Then keep your client/java window for as long as your computer is powered on. That way, when you use the computer, a handful of friends will always be waiting at your disposal! And remember, members who remain in the channel for 24 hours or longer are eligible for free doubloons, that's right FREE DOUBLOONS. Don't let this offer run away from you! Join the GameTavern IRC Channel today!

well, The GameTavern channel is still up. I mean feel free to use it and if you have any problem please contact me and I will adjust the situation. We had a few of our normal users hanging around in the channel so it wouldn't be empty when you connect. At this time we have about 60'ish people on the network 14-20 or so channels. All you need is the people to place in the channel. Maybe you should set up a meeting time every saturday night or something or somehow inform more users that it's there.
