View Full Version : Eł Prediction Thread 2002 (play for doubloons?)

This thread is--for the most part--directed at those who competed in last year's prediction contest.

Compete to earn more Doubloons!

Just wondering how that idea sounds... I think it would fortify the whole point of the contest.

Everyone may walk away with a few extra doubloons, based on how many points they receive at the end(for reference, the hightes score for last year's contest was 67).

To further carry the idea of competing... the winner could get a few more doubloons for placing first(second and third place should get a bit too)

And then there are other miscellaneous awards that can get you some more dblns.

It could also attract more contestants, and make this year's contest even more exciting/interesting that last year's.

I just want to know if anyone think we should give the idea a shot. I'm asking permission to do so, from who ever monitors dbln points.

I need some feedback so I can jot down a few notes to ensure the thread(especially the follow up thread) will progress smoothly as possible when the time comes.

If you are new to this(or not), but still are curious/interested, go to this thread (http://www.gametavern.net/forums/showthread.php?threadid=1479) and make a short post to confirm your support. Don't worry, you'll get all the details you need leading up to Eł.[/b]

Yup. I think that including dblns for prizes will be great to get people interested.

Yeah it all sounds good but it seems like a lot of work for only 2 people........ meh not my problem :P :D

I dont think it will be as interesting as last time tho cause not much was known about the system last time and now we already have all this info and other stuff so i dont think it will be as good as last time but still a lot of fun :)

I could agree with you Mushlafa, but ya know... with Nintendo, it seems like the more info you know, the more you realize you don't know so many things. Get me?

for instance, when the official thread rolls around, I bet I'll find more than enough questions. The real hard part is picking which ones will encourage more guessing/create more doubt

I mean, how many of us know (for sure) if Camelot will reveal their "secret GCN RPG?" well, I could(and most likely will) ask that one.

[edit]

will Thornado make an apparence?
Video form? Playable? ... it's the little stuff like that we can't be certain about.

ED supposedly wouldn't be at the show. I believe that's because Too Human will make some kind of an apparence. Are you with me?
... that the kind of prediction you swear you can't go wrong on...then BAM! you end up loosing points.

Rest assured Mush, there's enough questions out there to ensure thes contest will be an all out gessing game.

hope that helps. :)

Sounds like a good idea to me. If you need help with the doubloons and how many doubloons to give out D-realJos you can contact me if you like. :D

I suppose you could give out dblns like:

1st: 1,000
2nd: 500
3rd: 250

Those are just sime numbers I made up though...

Or by points you can give out say...the number of points they get and add half that onto it. (ie. 63 points = 63 + 31.5 [rounded to 32] = 95 dblns). Or differently.

Since I am helping you, JOS, will I still be able to participate in the game?

I suppose you could give out dblns like:

1st: 1,000
2nd: 500
3rd: 250

That sounds very reasonable, GameKing... we'll see.

Joeiss, yes you can participate. I did last time.

It doesn't necessarily mean we'll have any advantage(I got my beaten by quite a few people). Afterall, we'll post some prediction questions ever we aren't sure about. Anything else would be cheating. :D

And remember, there's a 50 doubloon fee for entering contests.

No really. Check the list in the Treasure Trove Forum. I think it's perfectly fair to make people pay to enter. It's not like 50 doubloons is worth all that much, and some people here need something to spend their doubloons on.

And you're going to put the thread in the Fight Club Forum, right D-RealJos? You're not going to make me move *ahem* I mean make Justin or Kitana move the topic, are you?

But yeah, I'll enter and prove my luck.

But what exactly do you want us to predict?? What games will be revealed, when they are going to be released, what companies have some surprises up their sleeve... stuff like that???

Doubloons aren't taken away for you just so that you have a 0 in your profile. Taking them away is supposed to affect you somehow. If you hadn't done whatever it is that got a moderator to dock your doubloon count, you'd be able to enter the contest. It's that simple.

What I'd suggest you do now is find out who did it and why. Moderators are theoretically supposed to inform each other when somebody gets doubloons taken away.

Or, why don't you just make a really good post so you get dblns??!!??!!

I am allowed to do that? Cool.

What is considered a good post though?

And remember, there's a 50 doubloon fee for entering contests.

Xantar, I was thinking about a fee as well...but yesterday I noticed that lEatHErFaCe69 had no dblns. If he gets doubloons by then, I'll do it. Hey, I'm sure I heard talk about borrowing dblns...so there may be hope yet.

And you're going to put the thread in the Fight Club Forum, right D-RealJos? You're not going to make me move *ahem* I mean make Justin or Kitana move the topic, are you?

Last time I put the thread on the Gen board, and it was moved to the events board(or something)...that place was virtually deserted. I got 29 entries, but I imagined I'd have gotten much more, had it stayed where I put it. Many of the replies I got, came from people I PMed, anyhow. I think mods need to take those things into consideration and stop being so strict about where a thread suppose to be. (It's not like confusion about where to put a topic happens that much.)

In any event, I'm going to put it in either the Gen board or the GC board(most likely). If it's moved, I suggest who ever move it, better lock it while they're at it... or I will. :mad2:

Not that I must have things my way or no way at all, but we have to be practical sometimes. I want as much people as possible to enter... the more fun we'll all have in return. Simple!

PS: I just came up with a pretty cool enhancement to the contest, it'll be revealed when I post the contest rules and regulations.

Thanks D-realJos, your so kind to me unlike other people on this site. Once I get my doubloons back and others ones too I will give some to you for your generosity towards me.

D-RealJos, if you're the one who gave Leatherface those doubloons he has right now, I must ask you what you are thinking. Now, I'm not a moderator any longer, but people are supposed to be penalized when they lose doubloons. If that means that they can't participate in contests, then so be it. Moderators don't take doubloons away lightly. There must have been a pretty good reason for it. It might have been because Leatherface was post-cramming lately. It might have been because he flamed me in the Treasure Trove Forum. You do know that he has done both of those, right?

This is not a communist board. Not everybody has the right to post here, and not everybody has the right to participate in contests. I must ask you, once again, what you are thinking. You cannot make up the rules of a contest just to accommodate somebody who has been penalized by the staff. It simply isn't your call to make.

As to the issue of the forum, you don't seem to recall exactly what happened, so I'll refresh for you. The topic was posted in the special E3 Forum which was created just for the event. That forum was dead because just about everything that had to do with E3 could be discussed in some other forum. Moreover, the E3 Forum was a temporary one. Everybody knew that it would disappear after E3. The same is not true about the Fight Club Forum. People will see your topic in there. In fact, if you post an announcement (or get somebody to post an announcement), you will make sure that everybody who is interested will find their way to the Fight Club Forum and read your topic. You can even get Neo to post something in the News Ticker. I'm sure he'll do it.
