Twentieth Century Fox has confirmed that popular animated TV series The Simpsons is to be made into a film.
The movie will be released in the United States in July 2007.
A 25-second trailer for the film has been shown to US audiences at screenings of Ice Age: The Meltdown, promising to introduce "the greatest hero in American history".
It then cut to Homer Simpson, wearing only his underwear, who admitted: "I forgot what I was supposed to say."
The Simpsons revolves around the antics of bald, beer-guzzling family man Homer and his spiky-haired son Bart.
International hit
It is the longest-running prime-time entertainment series on television in the US and a worldwide hit.
It is currently in its 17th season, and last month, US network Fox confirmed it had commissioned two more series.
This ensured the show would stay on screens until at least 2008.
There has long been speculation about whether it would be turned into a film.
Creator Matt Groening said last year that the animated hit would keep going as long as he and his colleagues could keep generating fresh ideas.
"That's what you're looking for in television - surprise," he added.

Yarrr. The show has been crap for a while now with lots of hit or miss jokes and episodes in general. Here's to hoping the FOX Network catches fire and all the firemen are distracted by naked midget clowns.

Myself being a pretty big simpsons fan, I knew about this a few days ago. Actually, I knew that they were in the planning stages to make a movie for a long time now. They also aired the same preview during the new episode tonight. Im pretty pumped about it, actually. I mean sure the show isnt what it used to be, but every once in awhile I'll still be surprised by how good an episode is, and id still rather watch The Simpsons than most other cartoons.

ive been saying for a long time now that they should finish off the Simpsons series with a movie...like, have the series finale on TV and then release the movie shortly thereafter, concluding the legacy

Cool, I would like to see this one. I was never a die-hard fan but when I did catch an episode I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Yeah, recently Simpsons episodes have been very...meh. Just not what they used to be. I think its because they are focusing too much on the family and not enough on others like they used to when they balanced between the family and other people throughout the city.
No clue what hte movie will be about but I want it to stay a surprise. I think that teaser trailer will probably be the only one I watch since I dont want to be spoiled from a movie like this.

Synopsis:
In the movie Homer causes an accident at the nuclear power plant - which causes the town's drinking water to be spoilt. Therefore, Erin Brockovich is guest starring - playing herself. After the incident, Homer gets fired from the plant, and majority of Springfield's citizens move away. In one scene, when people are trying to figure out what to do at the city hall meeting - Professor Frink suggests a "giant dome" should be built around the town. There will also be cameos by Albert Brooks' previous characters.

Hey, cool story!
I hope all the characters throughout the show's years make appearances, even if for a second.

that would be crazy.
even though that would be cool.
but what would they do with the characters that havent been on in years? like Dr. Monroe?
