View Full Version : Quicktime won't work...

So, when I went to see the X3 trailer at SpikedHumor, it showed the little Quicktime thing torn in half. I tried a few more videos, and none of them worked either. I didn't know how to fix anything that would be wrong with Quicktime itself, so I decided to just reinstall it.
So I did. But I had to install iTunes with it. I uninstalled that as soon I was done.
I tried the video again, and now I get the Quicktime Q with a ? in it.
Help?

I think it's SpikedHumor's fault because it didn't work on our PC either. Just download it directly from the link they provide right below:

that doesnt make a difference, its fine for if you dont want to install itunes with it, but unless that quicktime is a older version then its the same quicktime.
the problem is plugin related, not the program itself.
altho on that note, they really should offer quicktime as a seperate download for thoes who dont want itunes with it.

No, its not just SpikedHumor. Nothing that uses Quicktime is working... Not even just videos... The big...things on IGN's frontpages all are showing the Q symbol... :(

Should IGN be showing those? I remember when Flash was being told to open in Quicktime instead of Flash Player and for all flash animations the broken Quicktime would arrise.
Doesn't SpikedHumor use Flash to display their videos?

Wha!?!? iTunes is the best program in the world, what are you talking about.
I didn't want iTunes for the longest time so I held off on updating quicktime, but upon gettiing my Mac I learned that iTunes is fantastic. You should be getting it anyways, it really is the best program for music out there.
i have a feeling he was joking about that. :p
but i like itunes, it is a usefull program to have, a lot of nice feature, but not the best program for music out there. its a pretty bad one for encoding music, it only does a very basic mp3 or thier aac format, which honestly, pretty much the same as mp3, just cant use it with as many things as mp3's can.
But i agree for what it gives you, most people would be better off having it on thier pc then without.
but for the original comment, i really wish they'd offer both thoes as seperate downloads.

Me have no ipod, me more than content with no itunes
That's the main reason I torrented quicktime, I wanted to get it seperate from itunes.

Yeah, for all the YouTube, SpikedHumor, etc. links, I always have to view them in IE. It never bothered me enough to ask anyone how to make that stuff viewable in Firefox.
So, it works on Internet Explorer, but not FireFox O_o

YouTube won't work for me in Firefox. I really need help.
well its supposed to be, that if you install Quicktime AFTER firefox is installed, quicktime will automatically install the plugins for firefox.
if you put your quicktime on first, you could try reinstalling it (i wouldnt think you'd have to uninstall, just install it again over the one of you have)
BTW, on the earlier subject of offering quicktime without being packaged with itunes. aparently they do. http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
Quicktime 7 by itself.

Its still not working....
/me doesn't move
not only spiked humor then? any qt video?
like... http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/tls/trailer/medium.html
or... http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/missionimpossibleiii/medium.html
none of them play?
do you have any .mov files you can play in quicktime off your pc? and if they play, try rightclicking the fire, open with... and choose quicktime and check the box that says always use this program. not sure what diff that would make on a webpage file tho.
Also, in your firefox folder (where its actually installed) in the plugins folder there, it should have a bunch of npqtplugin files, and a quicktimeplugin.class File.
And Finally, What Firefox version do you have? (goto help, about firefox, and it says the version)

Its any QT video, or thing, at all. Even advertisements that I guess were done by Quicktime don't either. Neither do any of the IGN sites.
Anyway, the version is: 1.5.0.1
/me stays
so you cant even play a quicktime video off your pc? or just in firefox is what im asking.
What you could try is going into the plugins folder and deleting all the QT plugins for firefox, and then reinstall QT and see if its puts the ones in it needs.

Now it doesn't...work...anymore... Why... I don't... Not even an hour...
/me sighs
sounds like your going to a webpage thats altering the way the plugins work, changing how it opens that file on the page or something.

Xanga... Youtube... Mozilla.... Gametavern.... Umm... I think that's all I went to... I downloaded some themes and one extension, but I didn't before, so I don't think that's what made it mess up...
Is there anyway to keep that from happening?
