So I just got summoned for Jury duty, anyone ever had to serve? I thought if you werent a registered voter you couldnt be summoned(I havent registered to vote yet), but apparently thats not the case. Anyways im going to try to get out of it, citing full time student as my reason, but I actually almost wouldnt mind having to go just to see what it is like.

I got summoned for jury duty a few years ago. My mom got me out of it (i probably could have taken care of it, but mom stepped in). Anyway, we used the full-time student excuse also. I wouldn't want to serve anyway. In many cases my views are far too biased and I would not feel I was being fair in the decision. Also, my opinion/views are not always politically informed and I don't think that is fair either.

I haven't served on a jury. But I've selected a few of them (I'm a court clerk). It really depends on the case you get. If it's a civil matter, you probably won't like serving too much because civil cases are mostly boring and mostly frivolous (you'd be horrified to see how many people filed suit against Sears/Home Depot/Wal-Mart and decided to sue for it).
Criminal cases on the other hand...well, there are certain white collar crimes like forgery, but more than likely you'll get a drug case or maybe an assault. Those can get really interesting.

Yeah, I had to serve about a month back.
Kind of happy because can't be called again for 6 yrs or so.
And I got a civil case.. where the plaintiff was a native spanish speaker. So its even more annoying when half the time is spent translating.
