...I bet it's a fake!

I still think it's way too early, but I suppose it's good enough if they're going to say anything about the next gameboy at E3. And the design's not bad; it contends pretty well with the PSP.

Edit: GBA connectivity is confirmed. It's smaller, it's brighter.

Name: Nintendo DS Lite
Release date: 2006/3/2
Target price: 16,800 yen ($140)
Size: 133.0× 73.9× 21.5mm Compared to the original 148.7× 84.7× 28.9mm

Hm ok. If the Japanese market is ready for it...

Oh yes, it's backlit now.
IGN (http://ds.ign.com/articles/683/683684p1.html) doesn't have any more info than this.

Like it except for the dual screen logo thingy on the cover. How am I suppose to put a sticker there? And what's with everything looking like Apple had a hand in it? Sickens me. I miss the days of black electronics. And wood paneling....

Seems kinda pointless. SP was a huge change from GBA. Lite is what it should have been out the door.

Look at all that open space below the D Pad! Put on a half ass joystick..please! :eyes:

But I like the new design. If I can get a good trade for my old one, I'd do it

This might be something that I could get.
I really think the original DS lacked style... especially compared to the PSP and this new DS.

Yea, same here. I think I got 40 or 60 bucks on a trade in with my old original GBA when getting the XP.

Well it does contend with the PSP on a field that is similar to PC vs. Mac... lol But then again there is a White GT version PSP in japan so I dunno...

I like the new DS though, it doesn't look so much like a hunk of steel with 2 screens anymore. It looks slick and elegant, but there is still much room on the device that could be utilized for as jonbo said, a joystick or some sort of interactive button.

No, it's always been backlit. It was the first backlit gameboy player. It just has four levels of backlit-ness now.

IGN got wind of more info for US/EU markets.

January 26, 2006 - Following the earlier announcement of the new "DS Lite" revision to the DS hardware, Nintendo's Japanese parent has cleared up a few issues.

Although the product was announced in Japan, with no details given for international market, DS Lite will indeed be released in Europe and America. The company hasn't given a specific release date, only stating that the western markets can expect a release following Spring. This seems to suggest that a simultaneous release with the Japanese version (set for 3/2) is out.

There were also some questions about the fate of the current DS model. In Japan, Nintendo will continue to produce and sell the original model. The price of the original model will remain at its current 15,000 yen, 1,800 yen less than the 16,800 yen new model.

The DS Lite will be initially released to Japan in three colors, Nintendo reveals. In addition to the white color shown in the first pictures of the system, the company will release two yet unannounced colors.

Nintendo expects the DS to continue to perform well this year, both in old and new forms. Referring to the Japanese market, company president Satoru Iwata said to the Japanese press, "Taken as a whole with the current version, we're aiming at total domestic sales of 10,000,000 units not too late in the year." At the end of 2005, the DS had sold 5.7 million units in Japan.

We expect Nintendo's US division to provide further details on the US release of DS Lite in the not-so-distant future. Keep checking back here at IGNDS.

Oh ok, I thought it was frontlit like the AGB SP.

I'm really curious about the other colours. Gold anyone? :)

I wish they would've done a little bit more with the redesign. My main gripe with the current DS is how horribly uncomfortable it is, and this Lite version seems to worsen the ergonomic structure of the system. Maybe I just have big hands, but I really cannot play with the DS for more than 15 minutes without severe cramping.

Ah well. It'll be interesting to see the PSP's redesign at E3.

Jesus, thats about 20x larger then my DS (the image that is)

I hope they use silver for another color but make it less like the silver used for the original DS

Well, I guess selling my DS wasn't a bad choice. Now I can buy a DS Lite!

If you want to sell your DS Lite after 2 months, I keep myself recommended.

Bah, it is as I feared: they made the D-pad smaller. :( I hate small D-pads!

I guess you haven't played a GBA Micro; it's the same pad and I've heard nothing but good reviews about it. I approve of the decision, as the DS pad right now is pretty lame.

Hm I hate the GCN pad and the GameBoy Advances' also hurt my thumb. Perhaps they've just gone numb.

i agree on the smaller dpad thing. the smaller ones are just awful to use. playing GBA games on the GC controller is a pain to say the least. i cant tell how big that one is, i'd sure as hell hope its not GC size or smaller tho.

and GM, just be sure to sell the DS lite a few months after its released, you have to make room for the DS Super Lite. lol
