One of my new favorite books is Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of West. An amazing novel. It's a semi-prequel to the Wizard of Oz, recounting the life of the Wicked Witch from her birth to her ultimate demise at the hands of Dorothy.

At first I thought, oh another prequel, this is going to be cheesy. But this is an amazing novel even if it had nothing to do with the original story of Wizard of Oz. Hell, the story of Dorothy is practically a footnote to the novel. Wicked is one of my new favorites, easily.

It's supposedly a hit-musical now, which I didn't know until midway through the book, but of course the book is most likely better. :p

I read that right before the movie came out. Liked the book a lot more...plus cooler name. :)


Right now I'm reading all the Narnia books. Won't let myself see the movie until I read em all. So far read LWW, The Horse and His Boy, Prince Caspian, and now I'm on Voyage of the Dawn Treader. I read them all when I was younger but I only vaguely remember The Magician's Nephew.

And right before that I read Good Omens by Neil Gaiman. A humorous look at the Apocalypse. Quite good.

I just read Dostoevsky's Notes from Underground. Really enjoyed it. Read it straight through in one sitting and now my neck is killing me.

I read a simple short X-files book that I finished in 1.5 hours. And before that I finished Eaters of the Dead. And saw The 13th Warrior.

Now I'll read another X-files book and then War of the Worlds.

A friend of mine was going to a bookstore yesterday so I sent money with him to pick up George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Fire and Ice, Book I, A Game of Thrones"

I'll find out Monday if they had it. ^_^

Yukio Mishima's tetralogy: The Sea of Fertility

It's an amazing four book series by one of Japan's greatest writers(if not the greatest).

I recommend the series to anybody. Read it. I finally finished the last book a few days ago.


currently reading: The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky and also Notes From the Underground. My favourite author.

on the to read list: Shogun by James Clavell. I read King Rat in highschool and haven't read any of his other books.

I raided my sister's book collection(she's been collecting books since she could read) and I've found a number of gems that I'll have to tackle once I'm through the current strain.

i finiahws the entire series of Ender's Game, and man was that a good read! i think the next series will be Ender's Shadow series and then i'll go from there, haven;'t decided yet. Orson Scott Card is my new (book) god.

I started reading "Six War Years" last night and its quite good. Its an old hard cover book that i found at my grandparents, and its a collection of short stories usually around a page and a half about real experiences of Canadians during the seond waorld war. Keep in mind that its not just form the soldiers perspective but also through the eyes of children, parents, and others.
Some stories are really scary for instance there was this one about a unit killing thier own commanding officer. There are also some little interesting ones too. An example would be a stroy about someone that worked in a munitions factory making bombs and shells.

I also finished Grendel, my John Gardner the other day...it's the epic Beowulf written from the monster's perspective...it was glorious as well.

Gangsta Rap's white-kid counterpart, black metal music enjoys a continued obscurity that is baffling in light of the made-for-tabloid events detailed in Moynihans's and Soderlind's book. Their book is a sort of guide to the Norwegian black metal scene, where, the authors claim, this latest, more rebellious form of heavy metal music originated. Moreover, Norway is the recent setting for the burning of numerous churches, and for two gruesome murders for which a small group of black metallers have been convicted. Whereas gangsta rappers might cite ancient African traditions that have been violently uprooted as a cause for their crimes against society, Norwegian black metal-heads cite the slaughter of their pagan traditions at the hands of early Christians as their justification. For most readers, such rationalizations will fall apart as they note that black metal kids murder their own kind (as, often, do gangsta rappers). It does not require 344 pages (plus appendices) to become disenchanted with the authors' rather disorganized history, but rabid fans will find much to savor here, such as lengthy interviews with the scene's icons. This is an exhaustive look at a few, extremely disturbed young men who, tragically, did not get Ozzy Osbourne's joke.


I thought it was a good read, went to borders and was looking for a book, mainly one on a biography, but this one really caught my eye.

Actually, I just finished King Rat by James Clavell. It was awesome.

I'm currently on Taipan by Clavell and man is it long. Really, really long. When it started, it felt like the end - that's how long it feels. But it's really interesting and a plotline is emerging wonderfully.

So i've been wanting to read All quiet on the western front for some time now, and i just got around to ordering it from chapters because they were out of stock and had free shipping, but i just learned that there wherehouse is out of stock, and it wont arrive for 3-5 weeks :(
