Okay so a few months ago my dad bought my brother an Ipod nano straight from the apple website. Recently it appeared to somehow have developed a crack in the display, that went from the top of the screen to the bottom. It appeard that the pixels were "bleeding" from the crack. It would not turn on at all inless plugged into a USB port, and even when plugged in, all that it would do is the backlight would turn on. Nothing would actually appear onscreen. My brother of course claims that he did not drop or mishandle the Ipod in any way. We requested service under it (its still under warranty), but of course apple claims it has been broken due to accidential damage. Its currently in the process of being sent back to us. So my question is directed at you apple fanatics out there: What are our options on getting it fixed? Is there any possible thing we can do, or is it completley garbage now?

yeah, there has been much news on how flimsy these things have been made, my friend got one, and about 3 or 4 weeks after, he ended up breaking the screen, and he had told me all he did was drop it. I myself have a regular 20GB iPod and have dropped it and it barely left a scratch. Should be the smaller the more compact, the tougher.

Im just pissed that the damn thing is still under warranty and apple wont fix it. Dont worry though, im not done with them.

I posted a topic on apples discussion boards, so we will see what they have to say about it. After searching around, it looks like people have had the same problem, but apple has replaced theirs, so now im especially angry. Why wont they replace mine?

just keep pushing at apple. send it back, call up em.

the surface on them that makes em so shiny (only nano ones) also is what makes em more scratchable and arguably, weaker. i predict it was put in a pocket and had to much pressure put on a certain spot on the screen which is what cracked it.

but apple should replace it.

however, i'd never buy one off apples site, i'd much rather go down and deal with best buy where i can talk to them face to face rather then having to deal over the internet with apple.

and always always buy some kinda case/protection for ANY mp3 player, ipod or not.

i just got my iSkin i ordered for my video ipod. wraps the whole thing in a kinda silicone case, and has a full hard clear face cover that protects the screen and whole surface. they and other companies make thoes for more then just ipods.

My brother is a apple fanatic and just has everything apple... from his iMacG5, to his iBook G4, to his PowerBook G4, to his iPod 60GB.....

He told me that he would NEVER get the nano because of how small it is. The best direction to go in ters of getting a iPod for someone is to get the regular iPods. They are thinner now and aren't as bulky as before.

I've heard alot of issues with the Nano. I believe there is even a few class action lawsuits or something of that nature against Apple because they were aware of the issues with them and fail to recongnize it as their fault for making a shoddy product.

I too tell people who want a Nano to stay away from it and get a bigger sturdier regular iPod

My original 5G mechanical scroll wheel iPod is still running like a champion. I attribute that to the excellent, royal care I give to it.

yea. my 3rd gen is still great. and aside from one light scratch on the side when i put my keys on my pocket with the ipod once, it looks brand new.

now if i could just find something to use it for... heh.
