View Full Version : Who of you owns a PSP?

I play my DS mostly but I also like the PSP. I have a few of those UMD movies which are pretty cool. It's fun to watch movies at work, on vacation, while driving, etc. It's too bad they're so expensive. Anybody have game recommendations? My game library is pretty sparse. I have luminous, wipe out pure and metal gear acid. I used to have untold legends but thought it kinda sucked.

Lumines, not Luminous. :p

Anyways, buy Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee. There, much better.

Ridge Racers is worth checking out.

I'm sure you could look into GTA: Liberty City stories. That was well-received by a lot of people.

But honestly, honest-to-god, I haven't touched it since October! And ever since I picked up Mario Kart/Animal Crossing, I've realized I've wasted money on the PSP.

If you own a DS just get Animal Crossing (must-have) or Mario Kart.

I havn't really touched my PSP in a number of months (as I havn't really touched any games period in a number of months), but it's worth seconding Dyne's Hot Shots Golf recommendation...

By far my favorite PSP game...

Well I just picked up Tokobot and Infected. Tokobot is cool and different but the Infected disc won't load - the disc just keeps spinning. What's up with that?

havnt seen either win that race yet.

havnt touched my PSP or DS in a while..

even tho i own some of the newer games, but i knew that would happen.. i never play any of the handhelds i get... i usually only get them cuz i like new gadgets. :)

psp was being used more tho for movies and emulators, however since i got the video ipod i put all my movies on that instead.

however, tho i down own them i enjoyed what i tried of Liberty stories and Socom

The race of which system has the better games? DS wins by far.

I own a PSP and I haven't touched it in ages, I been playing Mario Kart and Nintendogs on my DS coz they are fun.

I want a PSP eventually...when the price drops a little. I'd use it mainly for emu's if they keep working around the "preventions" with each patch

Given that I haven't touched my DS in about.......oh, 6 months or so, I'd say the PSP would be of more value to me, just because you can go all peg-leg, parrot on the shoulder, eye-patch style with it.

Matter of opinion, but if you look at the reviews on average DS>PSP in the games dept 'by far' (which is also a matter of opinion).

I am on a dialup pc and don't have time to run the reviews through with you, but it's very obvious as to which has the better games according to IGN/GAMESPOT etc

But you must understand, not everybody likes Mario Kart (me)... Not everybody wants to own another slightly different version of Animal Crossing when they got bored of the original months and months ago (me)... And not everybody is interested in the premise of raising a virtual dog (me)...

What happened to Castlevania? What happened to Advance Wars: Dual Strike? What happened to Meteos? Kirby: Canvas Curse? Sonic Rush? Mario/Luigi: Partners in Time?

Look, I love PSP. But where the hell is my Final Fantasy, my Devil May Cry, my real Metal Gear Solid?

EDIT: Well you've been trying to word a reply for 10 minutes so it better be well-worded with statistical evidence or else you won't have proven ****.

I have to side with Dyne. The DS has a game for just about every taste and gamers both casual and hardcore.

On the other side of the spectrum, the PSP has jack **** (so far). You can't count emulated games. Those aren't officially endorsed or provided by Sony and not everyone can or knows how to go about 'homebrewing'.

With IGN, the DS has seven games that have scored 9.0 or higher.

The PSP only has three.

On GameSpot, the DS has three superb games (9 or higher).

The PSP, just two.

There is no argument, as of now, the DS offers a greater library of excellent games.

Err, I wasn't really trying to prove anything so much as I was just stating my personal opinions... Can't really back that up with facts other than the fact that I personally think neither system currently has a very tasty selection of games... A fact which is only relevant to me, and perhaps people who care too much about what I think...

I was never a big Sonic fan, I've never played a Kirby game, I'm not big on puzzles (Lumines is enough for me, and since I already own it, Meteos isn't really much of an incentive to buy a DS as well), Advance Wars was pretty fun, but I never finished it and I don't know if I'd be interested in starting another... Mario/Luigi is a maybe...

The only game that really makes me wish I had a DS is Castlevania... Mario/Luigi and Kirby are games I would probably also pick up if I owned the system, but I would not buy the system for either of them...

Other than that, it should be pretty obvious that not everybody likes Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, or Nintendogs... Not everybody likes GTA, Final Fantasy or Metal Gear... Or the color blue, lasagna or fancy cars...

IGN has more high-ranking DS games than high-ranking PSP games...
But other than the fact that IGN writers themselves (on the forums and such) have said that readers shouldn't really compare reviews for one system to reviews for another system (different staff, different standards, etc), those numbers don't really mean much to the people who simply aren't interested in those games...

Null isn't really particularly interested in the games of either system, and neither am I... And we can't be the only two gamers out there who feel this way...
Saying "Jesus Christ, *name here*. No." isn't going to change that...

As for your edits, you were deceived by the forums... After I submitted that reply, I closed the browser and popped in a movie...

No I didn't mean you in those edits, I meant Null.

You can't detract from the original point. The PSP game lineup sucks, "by far". The DS has a pretty good lineup - not the absolute best, but still pretty god damn awesome for not having Pokemon yet. Tastes have nothing to do with it - the collective "taste" of the game industry speaks through all of the reviews.

I don't care what you do or don't like.

End of story.

Well that was confusing, as you only quoted me :>

You can't detract from the original point. The PSP game lineup sucks, "by far". The DS has a pretty good lineup

And you can't detract from the fact that that's a matter of opinion...

There are people out there who like DS more, there are people out there who like PSP more, there are people out there who like both equally, and people who don't care for either...

Tastes have nothing to do with it - the collective "taste" of the game industry speaks through all of the reviews.

Electronic Arts...
Their games, for the most part, sell big, and receive good reviews...

Yet that doesn't prevent what seems to be a good majority of Nintendo fans from writing them off as crap and cursing the ground they walk on (or at least shrugging and muttering "eh")...

I don't care what you do or don't like.

And you're not supposed to...

Too bad most review sites agree with me on this point.

When it comes to music, "review" sites are all over the map.

*points to his comment about EA*...

The indie music snob comment was meant in the sense that people are constantly having passionate arguements about music, yet when it comes down to it, they're as thin as "My taste in music is better than yours"...
They replace "Opinion" with "Taste" and suddenly it sounds more valid...

It's a vague, unfounded attempt to push their opinion higher than someone else's...

I'd probably take you a bit more seriously if you stopped using so many damned ellipses.

It's a subconscious thing to get mad at someone for always seeming unsure about his sentences. I can't trust you or your opinion if you never complete your thoughts and "fade out" or "pause" or whatever tone you're trying to set.

I'll side with you...

I think a DS is worth picking up purely for Castlevania, though can get a similar experience with Aria of Sorrow for GBA. DoS is probably the best if not the most addictive game I've played in years.

Almost everyone who's played it states that Ouendan is the best game for the system. I'm mighty tempted to import it.

I'll also be sure to pick up Electroplankton in January (only available online in the Americas.)

MKDS is good but far overrated. And ACWW...I'm honestly not enjoying it as much as others are. After putting in hundreds of hours (just an estimate) into the GameCube version there isn't much new to experience and rather much was removed...where art thou holidays?

As for IGN...they called MKDS the best game for DS for 2005. I can hardly agree. And after shunning DD (which is still my favorite kart game) I really don't trust their opinions on such matters. (EGM has a more similar mind flow as me on the subject of karting.) But alas I don't think one should put too much stake in what game reviewers have to say.

DS offers so many different styles of gameplay. There's pretty much something there for everyone.

P.S. Ellipses are a godsend...I think this is the first post I ever made with so many damn periods.

I rarely check Who's Online as it is but 10 minutes of vacation time isn't very much. And ten minutes of keeping a window that refreshes itself is hardly keeping track of you all the time.

Also Dan, different editors run the DS section, don't they? I can see why there's different opinions.

Well, I guess we couldn't come to a conclusion that everyone could agree on.

I think that's how the PSP fans should feel as well. Sometimes people like to think they've won when no winner is actually declared.

It's primarily run by the grumpy Craigaroo. Bozon recently came onboard. I don't know much about the fellow yet. It was Matt and Fran of IGNCube who hated DD with a passion. Craig stated that MKDS was the best MK and also the best game for the system. Matt has him on puppet strings...
