Looks like I'll go to Future Shop and pick up a D-Link DI-524, since it's cheap and all I'll use it for is DS.

Any clue how well WiFi is going to work on a dorm internet at university that is often kinda ****ty? And will I be able to use the wireless router with this internet?

The agreement we have with the company that gives us internet (built into the cost of university, we can't pick or choose the internet service) says:

"Customers will not be given a fixed IP address and are not allowed to run their own servers within the residence. This includes specifically mail servers, web servers or routers set as DHCP servers. Refer to the Acceptable Use Policy for full details."

Oh yeah baby, Linksys BEFW11S4 rules!

I think thats the one I have. Anyways while we are on topic, I have a few questions about setting up my wireless router that I would like some kind soul to answer. As follows:

1. Someone just confirm I have this correct: The Ethernet cable that comes out of my Cable Modem, will plug into the wireless router, then another ethernet cable will go from the wireless router to my computer.

2. Will having my internet going through a wireless router first make my speeds slower? I assume that, if im actually using the DS online and someone is browsing the internet at the same time that speeds could be affected. But they shouldnt be affected if the wireless internet isnt being used correct?

3. When I set up the router, should I even bother downloading the software that comes with it? Should I use that windows wireless network wizard? Or should I just plug everything in and not use any software/programs at all?

If I have any other questions come up, I'll be sure to post them.

I'll try to help.

1) Si.

2) Yeah. I doubt the DS is gonna affect speed much. When I'm downloading huge files on my comp I get complaints that the other comp goes super slow.

3) Hmm. Well read and do what it says. You'll do some configuring through your browser as well as some stuff with the network wizard. I would just follow the instructions. Was pretty easy if I remember correctly. For that router's setup its probably: http://192.168.1.1 Go to advanced and go to fowarding and you can select what ports different programs can use. The last digits of the IP address can be found by typing ipconfig in the command prompt. I dunno how the DS is configured yet but for my wireless comp I needed to set the ports to use bittorrent. Can also set the WEP key through the main setup page which I believe will need to do with the DS.

Cool, I got it set up, everything worked great, I did have to call my internet provider, apparently the router needed to be registered in their system or something...anyways, it appears to be working, so now I just play the waiting game...hope my local best buy wont be sold out, I didnt preorder.
