VGS: Videogame Society. In seeing that no such club existed, i took it upon myself to create it. Near 60 members have since joined and its getting larger. Now, I love leading such things, but to tell you the truth, I'm running out of ideas. LAN parties in the works of being set up but beyond that and the odd tournament, there isn't much else that I've set up yet. Does anyone have any ideas of what I can set up for the club? We are currently in the process of trying to aquire sponsorers for the club (EB and such) but for now, i'm stumped.
Thanks everyone.

Beat me to it.
Drinking, and games, go together good.
Hell, drinking and ANYTHING go together good.
Get a bunch of drunk people together and tell them to go jump in a bush, and you're like ****ing Einstein to them.
Bush jumping is so much fun.
What about imitating the games? Or convetions?

Make t-shirts... Everyone loves t-shirts. And you could make a contest out of it or something

hmmm...
bush jumping, tried it with a bunch of friends, but we jumped 20ft off the ground, and didn't know the bushes below, were full of prickers.

How about a costume party where everyone dresses up as their favorite video game character and you role play?
I know Sean's done a fair bit of role playing...too bad he was all alone.

Well if your school has a TV channel/radio station, you can produce like a weekly gaming show to keep the school informed.
You can have booths with quick games.. like beat the high scores in mario party mini games.
And different types of tourneys.
Or classes for the uneducated. Teach them a thing or two.

Here's an idea for you....
Come up with a snappy name for your club and let GameTavern host it. We can create a new forum just for your group. If it becomes large enough then you'd probably want to get your own site eventually but for now you could host it here.
If you don't want any web sponsorship you should at least tell them they should come here so they can find like-minded individuals to discuss gaming with. We have our own little arcade so they could compete with each other that way as well.

I actually want to get something like this started on a High School level. It would be a great way for students who may not be "physical specimens" to learn how to compete and work as a team in a more cerebral environment that does not include chess.
My choices of games would have to limited to keep excessive violence and obscene content at a minimum (mainly to keep parents happy as I think most teenagers are able to handle M-Rated games), but I think it could actually work. If you could get other schools to follow suit, there could be leagues and championships like any other sport.
You might think no one in charge would ever go for it, but I think as more and more older folks were actually raised on video games, the possiblility is only getting better. Plus, many parents might actually view this as a blessing if their kid spends hours upon ours by himself playing video games. Playing the games ina social setting would be a huge improvement in their minds.

A field trip to Playdium.

Wow, actually a lot of good ideas have been tossed, kudos especially to Neo, Kryptonite and Fox6....I think i might actually set up a trip to Playdium...a who could get further in a game is good, kinda like that old show "Video Arcade top 10", unfortunately we need multiple tvs.
And Neo, actually that is a GREAT idea, not only to bring an easy to remember URL to gamers, but as well to heighten the traffic around here. Thanks a lot.
If you can generate enough interest I can setup a forum for you, we just have to figure out what form it would take. Maybe a subsection of the general forum, though I want it to be visible and not buried somewhere.

My sentiments exactly. But everyone deserves a chance to act a little nerdy.

He kind of owns the place. I think he has a few more powers than a mere mod.
EDIT: Just realized that Scalar2342 is a new admin. Is he paying the bills too?
Also, will the rest of us be able to access this new forum? I don't like the idea of forums that I can't get into. The staff forum is bad enough.

Don't worry about that, I'm about to smack him down.
Yes everyone will be able to access it. It may not even be necessary, it just depends on how many people Gimpy can bring and in what capacity he wants to make use of the forum.

i'm thinking general access as well, simply because you guys have kickass ideas, and when there isn't any political/religious debates going on, everyone generally gets along.
This is one of the better ideas in recent memory. It could bring in so much new traffic... yummy...
But not the kind of traffic from the movie "Traffic."
But not the kind of traffic from the movie "Traffic."
Oh no, we wouldn't want to be trafficking any of that Traffic.

But not the kind of traffic from the movie "Traffic."
For those unfamiliar with Neo's little pop-culture reference, Traffic is a film directed by Steven Soderbergh that explores the intricacies of the illegal drug trade from a number of perspectives: user, enforcer, politician and trafficker.

I could just go rent it, so, maybe 2 miles is as far as i'd go.
