My mp3 player (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00009MVHC/qid=1129908450/sr=8-21/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i6_xgl23/102-5328367-2900147?v=glance&s=electronics&n=507846) went kaput after 3 years of use. The ipod nano looks ok for the price but I don't really like ipods and despise itunes. I want something with a rechargable battery (or else I would go with one of creative's smaller players). Anyone have any experience with a good mp3 player they would reccomend? Memory size isn't a big issue...just want more than my past 128MB. As for the size of the player itself would prefer something small. Zen Micro is a bit too heavy for my liking.

I work for a wholesale company and we deal with thousands of mp3 players a day going in and out of the warehouse, and believe me the most popular mp3 players are the Samsung YEPP mp3 players. Look out for them, they have a really nice a small one, good quality, and long lasting battery....

Samsung Yepp YP-T5V

Don't be fooled by this picture... the unit is the size of a AAA battery, give or take a few cm's..

Took one out of our warehouse and took a picture for actual size purposes for you

it's also 256MB, FM, Voice Recorder

But takes a AAA battery. :( Lasts 20 hours but still...

I actually like the YP-U1 but I can't find anywhere that sells it. And according to their site there isn't a physical store 120 miles of where I live that sells it either.

Ah, apparently Ciruit City has it. If no one else makes any suggestions might go with this.

I have an RCA Lyra something something. It fits in the palm of my hand, and I've had it since last Christmas, listen to it constantly, and have only ever changed the battery once. But its AA.

Samsung makes great mp3 players the YP-U1 is also a good one, you should try that.

dont know why anyone would buy an mp3 player less then at LEAST 4gigs. i'd bet money on you'd out grow it within a year and want more space.

Best value is the higher the space. because at even $100 for a 256mb player, would equal out to $8,000 for 20gigs. you say the nano is a good price... however its 4 gigs. and for just $50 more you could have a 20gig.

if you want a good MP3 player, get either an ipod or an iriver.
ipods are easily the best simply because of the addons they have for them. you can find almost anything for your ipod... full car integration, stands, clock radios, they have jackets with ipod plugs and pockets made for it in them or gloves with remotes for the ipod built in. the addons are endless while most other players you'll be lucky to find a handfull of addons.

i'd say (ahem, for you*) irivers are second place, great sound. good size, color screens, reliable. comes in many differnet types/colors.

if your absolutly determined to get one ultra small with less storage, you can check out the iriver ultra portable players. http://www.iriveramerica.com/prod/ultra/

i dunno if you read my post, but im actually for HIM recommending the iriver. this is not an ipod nor has anything to do with apple.

however he said he wanted to know what good mp3 players are, and without listing the ipod (like it or not) you wouldnt have the top mp3 players. its not because of how they look that they own 75% of the mp3 player market, its because they actually are really good players. (and i said nothing of itunes because you dont need it for ipods)

but once again. the focus of the post was on the irivers, they are almost as good as the ipods (just not all the addons yet) and they come in so many different shapes/sizes/options that theres one for almost everyones taste.

;)

Yeah so do the Samsungs though... I sell for my company on various outlets, and the Samsungs sell more then the iRivers...to be quite honest.

iRivers may be better in quality and such but Samsungs sell more and are more popular according to our sales.

It's his decision though...

i'd reccomend Creative Labs, anything from them or iRiver.

I wouldnt touch an iPod unless its an iPod mini or bigger, no shuffle or nano, their pieces of crap.

I decided to go with Samsung's YP-U1 (should arrive in a few days). I was tore between that and a nano. The final straw was when I tried to update quicktime and I couldn't do so without also getting itunes. Had to go to oldversion.com to get it by itself. Apple pisses me off more and more each day.

I would've held off on the Nano anyways since they currently have a nortorious scratching issue which already has a lawsuit.

Have fun with your new music machine!

Well wouldn't have affected me anyway since my main reasoning for even considering the nano was for this skin:

I have a thing for fake wood paneling.

Haha, the press photo of that Samsung is playing Weird Al Yankovic?

Another reason for my purchase. ;)

hmmm.

wood panel fetish, sounds sensible.

yeah, that wood paneling skin does look cool, but other than that, i'd never get another iPod in my life.

Looks like we have something in common :D

Except I like iTunes.......I just think the iPod is way overrated.

Samsung I hear are quite good, but I would recommend Sony's Network Walkman mp3/attrac3+ player. The 20gb version of the Network Walkman offers 40+ hours battery life, removeable lithium battery (so you can buy another battery for long trips). I have bought 2 ipods (20gb and new 6gb mini) and found the battery life for both are below average when compared to Sony's one. Also I find the wheel frustrating at times as it does not always select the song I'm aiming for (and it's not just me coz my friends compain about the same thing. Judge for yourself though.

Enough babbling. Here's the link :-

and for flash drives...........

Thanks for reccomendations but I just got the YP-U1. It's great.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v347/danchastu/yp-u1-taxi-driver.jpg

Ridiculously light and simple to use. Size of pack of gum...but cheaper than a shuffle and with a screen. The USB "cable" is hidden within and slides out when needed.

Samsung is the up-and-coming company. My Samsung cell phone and DVD/VCR Recorder are both great buys!

I had always thought Sony was the best.

Samsung is catching up, kinda sad.

I made a lego case for it. It's not at all practical though. Can't change songs let alone turn it on...

Make a Lego case for your cellphone and a toothbrush holder.
