View Full Version : The new ipod announced...
announcment is going on still at the current time..
but the new ipod has been announced, support for video has been added. 20gb and 60gb models. 30% thinner then current ipods making it 0.44 inches thick? Even has TV out on it i guess... comes in black and white. and with a wider screen. (im kinda hoping the screen will be longer up and down and you just turn it side ways to have a wide screen on it for videos.)
Launches next week along with Itunes 6.0 which obviously now will feature video downloads. i dunno what kinds but it says at about $1.99 per download on thoes... better be more then just a 10min vid for download tho.
but other then downloading it, the ipod supports h.264 avc or quicktime videos not sure what other formats.

Video iPod - 30/60GB. $299/399. Screen is 4:3.
iTunes 6 out now. Adds new video tab instead of just showing them as a list. Music store now sells videos for $1.99. So far they aren't up (still being updated), the only ones accessible are from Apple.com's homepage. Pixar's videos, Madonna's music videos, and full episodes of Desperate Housewives and Lost are all $1.99. Supposed to have 2,000 music videos.
Quicktime 7.0.3 has new codec allowing for smaller file sizes and better resolution.
iMac's updated. Now have iSight built-in, and also include FrontRow, a new remote allowing for control of your media content, like iTunes, slideshows, videos, etc.

What kinds of video does it play, exactly? If I get a .avi file off the internet, can I put it on the iPod Video and watch it? Or does it have to be Quicktime .mov files?
In fact, how do you put videos on the iPod anyway? Is it only videos from iTunes or is it just any video you have on your hard drive? How big and at what resolution is the screen?
Is this going to create problems for the PSP?

Just got back from the announcement, most stores have already sold out of the iPod, analysts are saying they'll be sold out through the holidays all the way into February. If you haven't purchased or reserved one you have no hope of owning the greatest music player during Christmas. Early reviews are heralding the new iMac as the greatest desktop computer of the decade, hands down without any question. Stocks are soaring, Mac enthusiats are celebrating, and the sun is shining.

works the same way mp3's work on it... drag and drop ones you have or ones you downloaded on itunes (or any program that supports ipod) and it puts em on there.
they've said it supports h.264 AVC mpg-4 and they suspect quicktime videos, that doesnt mean it wont support other formats, and even then what formats it uses could be updated.
however its fairly quick and easy to convert an avi or any video file into a type it reads.
Screen is 2.5 inches (diagonal) resolution on the video is 320 x 240 at a solid 30 fps.
more info can be found here... http://www.apple.com/ipod/ipod.html
engadgets hands on impression...
The video iPod won’t disappoint. It feels slim and easy to hold even after two weeks spent with my nano. Video playback is solid. They’re not kidding about 30 fps without sputtering. You can’t fast forward, but you can scroll back and forth on a progress bar—just as you do with music—to jump forward and back in the video. Oh, and the black model is going to be hot. Without the U2 model’s red wheel it’s less of an acquired taste.

Ok this is my take on the iPod currently:-
I used to like the iPod, until I used the Sony N/W Walkman. Sonic stage takes a lot of getting used to, but overall it works great. I still think Itunes is better though.
40 hour playback + removable battery is what tempted me over the current iPod. And the up and down arrows are a lot more accurate than the wheel thingo. That wheel is too sensitive, or not sensitive enough. I find it highly frustrating. Times where I'm trying to choose a song, and it goes to the song above it, or below it. The Sony N/W Walkman feels very sturdy and sleek in my hand, but the iPod mini feels plastic like (only in comparison).
I thought iPod was the best..........until my 20gb battery crapped itself, and my 6gb randomly paused, and battery began to crap itself. Now Sony has proven itself to me. Sony have been around longer than apple in the portable music business, so it makes sense that finally they make such a great portable handheld mp3 player to compete with iPod.

The battery life on my Ipod Mini sucks. Thats my only complaint with it, the battery life is just plain bad.

The next time I heard the iPod mentioned will be too soon. I remember when they first came out and seeing someone on the train with white headphones..."ostentatious prick" I thought to myself. Had no idea such a thing would catch on and spur an mp3 revolution. And here I am years later one of the last surviving of the iPodless race. 10 years down the line I shall lead my group of rebels against the great white iRobots inslaving the human race. Where do you thinkt the "pod" in iPod comes from. Like the matrix...it's gonna happen...humans in their little pods...cut off from the real world. You have been warned.

I applied for the special Apple Credit Card so I could order an iMac with 120 days same as cash financing and they rejected my application on the account of insufficient credit history. WTF!

well that one suits me.
im not saying its bad at all. and if it was given to you you didnt pay anything anyway.
im just saying you can always build the same computer as places sell prebuilt for cheaper. Thats why so many bands of prebuilt computers show up all around the net, its such an easy business to startup. simply buy the parts put it together sell at higher price.
