The snake could've won if it hadn't been so dumb as to try to swallow an entire alligator. Can't you tell if you eaten enough or too much? Pretty interesting nonetheless... to have the top predator of a certain area lose to a new, unexpected opponent. That would be like having the mighty lion lose to something new and powerful.

Well, a phython swallows its victim whole, so they can't really just chew off a portion and go "Okay, I've had enough"... It has to swallow the whole thing.

I remember reading an article where a guy was killed by a phython, and it had half swallowed his head but couldn't get its jaw past his shoulder.
