It's looking like this movie's going to be pretty sweet.

What if its total crap like most other game to movies are?
What then?
This could either make Halo really good, or make Jackson a total douche.
I still have no idea how a Halo movie would work...yet alone be good...

Picture Starship Troopers.
Now picture it newer, and directed by Peter Jackson.

I'm still excited for a Silent Hill movie.
If that sucks...I'll...I'll...I'll probably cry.

Anything by Peter Jackson = Automatically Good
We just watched King Kong in film class 2 weeks ago. I can't wait to see how his adaptation plays up against the original.

Well....Peter Jackson hasn't "screwed up" yet. Maybe this will be the first project he will look back on, laugh and tell everyone what a stupid mistake he made :p

Silent Hill movie > Halo movie
;]
I hope that does well. The director sounds like he kept it true to the game. I hope.. :[

Just one problem: Peter Jackson is executive producer, not director. Those are not the same thing.
I'm sure he'll be a good influence, but if you're expecting Lord of the Rings in space, forget about it. This is going to be an bang bang explosion action movie. It could be a fun action flick, but in the end, it's not going to be the next cultural phenomenon.

Let's take a look at the other time Jackson dabbled in sci-fi:

How would an alien know what the meaning of single raised middle finger is? That movie looks really weird.

Peter Jackson got his start doing "Splatstick" movies that were funded with the help of the Australian government. I own two of them, including the classic horror spoof gone nuts known as Dead Alive. Dead Alive was quite good in a silly/gory/low budget kind of a way, and you can definitely see his chops as a director with his use of forced perspective, lighting and camera angles. Its not for everyone, though.

Meet the Feebles, however, is possibly the single most insane movie I've ever seen. I don't even know if its good, bad or what. Its just there and its friggin' weird. Imagine a behind the scenes of the Muppet Show with pimps, adultery, drugs, addicts, murder, sex and STDs. I don't even know if I like it, all I know is that its a must see.

I have not seen Bad Taste, but I really want to. :D

As for Jackson's other pre-LOTR work that was mainstream, he also did The Frighteners which I thought was very good, and Heavenly Creatures which is a wonderful film.

That is from Dead Alive, and one of the more memorable scenes along with the re-animated intestines and Zombie Baby.
It also can't be shown on this forum as its incredibly violent. Sorry guys.
