View Full Version : My Firefox is becoming Self Aware

So this morning something incredibly bizarre happened.

My firefox was in the middle of loading up a page, and I got this wierd warning message. It said something had gone wrong, but it was still possible to save something.

It didn't use those exact words, but that's the gist of it. It even had two symbols, that yellow triangle and some green box.

So I had to close down Firefox, and when I tried to open it back up, it popped up a menu and said I had to choose my profile. Sense there was only one profile I ever used (default), I clicked on it.

Then Firefox told me "That profile is already in use". Only I didn't have firefox opened....

I even restarted my computer and got the same message. So I'm thinking that's really wierd, so I just create another profile. I was extremely scared because I knew this would mean all my bookmarks would be gone.

Except I was wrong, sort of. About 3 or four months ago I had the misfortune of losing all my bookmarks because there was an error in a livejournal plugin that I installed. That nearly killed me because I so many important things in there. I was able to remember some of the sites, but not nearly all of them.

So today, when I created the new profile...all of those bookmarks from about 3 months ago that I 'lost', were back.

So....I'm pretty happy. I havn't bookmarked many things sense then, so I lost very little, but gained a lot.

If it says profile in use, open Task Manager and end the process that shows Firefox. That always fixes it for me

Yeah, that's a really old Firefox bug most people get.

Make sure FF is closed.

Start > Run > firefox -p (space included) hit enter and choose it

Thanks for that. :) I had the same bug. It totally sucks that it's so hard to select another profile.

Are you still using Firefox 1.0.7 ? as this bug was somewhat fixed fixed so one should not get the profilemanager and the profile in use message with builds like 1.5.0.*

In Firefox 1.5 or later, a "Close Firefox" dialog box may appear with the message, Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system.

Firefox 1.5.0.2, Mozilla Suite 1.7.13 and for those still using the old 1.0.x builds, Firefox 1.0.8 is planned for release on April.11 about.
