Recently surfaced news confirmed that Microsoft will be charging Xbox360 accessory makers licensing fees. Raising concerns among crowds that the move might result in steep accessory prices for the average consumer. Microsoft has also included, industry's first ever, encryption hardware inside the Xbox360 to make sure that no one violates the new licensing parameters set by the giant corporation.

Hot on the heels of this news, some insiders close to Sony suggested that the upcoming Playstation3 may be just as “open” for 3rd party accessory makers as the PS2. A statement true in a sense, as Sony has never actively pursued anyone in the past for not paying licensing fees for its Playstation brand accessories. On the other hand, Microsoft and Nintendo find this as a perfect opportunity to raise yearly revenues and go so far as to sue those violating the procedures.

Both of these approaches have their pros and cons. While Sony’s way can help consumers find a lot more accessories on shelves with a decent price tag. At the same time these cheaper products can’t be guaranteed to last long enough like their licensed counterparts.

In the end, it all boils down to consumers wishes. We're sure that all of these Gaming industry giants are well aware of the needs of their respective fanbase and will do whatever they can to satisfy each and everyone of them.

I think Microsoft is being a little bit to tight assed with that ****....then again, Sony may lose a big chunk of royalties....but more accessories for cheap, means more ps3 sales....i dunno... whaddya guys think?

I think there's going to be a lot of crappy accessories.

Even if they're not charging royalties, they should at least have some quality assurance people hired. It's just going to be out of control if there isn't.

More PS3 accesory sales because the controllers, etc... keep breaking every week, just like PS2s do (kidding, kidding...to an extent. Dont flip out on me for that last half of my comment)

While its nice to not have to pay licensing fees, its gonna be more 'iffy' because its going to become a "You get what you pay for" setup

The average consumer that can afford a PS3 will go "That one is $40 cheaper, lets get it" and not think twice

and they'll either:

a) get a much cheaper product that works

or

b) learn the hard way

Thats what I meant with point A. Mom doesnt care about quality, if its cheap, she buys it to shut up little timmy. or little timmy tells mom "But its only $10 for this PS3 controller" and a week later it breaks and Mom gets pissed :p

But sheesh, I'm not using bias against Sony on these replies. A few of you seem to think I am but I'm not. So dont rip apart my posts
