Twilight Princess development team requests extra time to make it a better game.
by Matt Casamassina

August 16, 2005 - Nintendo announced this morning that its anticipated new adventure game, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, has been delayed. The title, formerly scheduled to debut this November around the world, has since been postponed to 2006 so that the developer can continue to make the game better.

"After much discussion, the Zelda development team has requested extra time to add new levels, more depth and even higher quality to Zelda: Twilight Princess," said Nintendo of America's vice president of corporate affairs, Perrin Kaplan. "Consequently, we're announcing a new global launch in 2006, after the conclusion of this fiscal year (March 31). We'll provide a specific date at a later point in time. While this may come as a disappointment to many eager fans, it will absolutely enrich the game and make it a multi-million seller."

Twilight Princess, developed by Nintendo and directed by Majora's Mask overseer Eiji Aonuma, was previously set to be the company's big holiday game. In fact, analysts expected the game to be Nintendo's single greatest deterrent to consumers potentially interested in Microsoft's next-generation console, Xbox 360, which is set for a November launch. The delay leaves Nintendo without a major holiday release on GameCube.

When the game finally hits shelves though, I'm sure everyone will say that it was worth the wait.

Agreed... but I'd rather have a better game to play.

But...it was already so well done at E3. Maybe those extra levels will matter after complaints about WW being too short

Does the development team offer any suggestions on what to do or what games to play while we're waiting?

At least some new screens (http://media.cube.ign.com/media/572/572738/imgs_1.html) came out.

Thats 50 NPCs on screen..including the dog.

mmmmm, new screens. Screenies of the city look pretty cool but it needs some anti-aliasing. It looks like crap somewhat :Puke:

This will absolutly kill its sales, no doubt. That couldve been a HUGE holiday seller, but now, whenever they decide to release it, there's no way it will sell like it could have.

But this sort of move makes me respect Nintendo. It shows that they really dont care so much about sales or costs or how much profit they are going to make, they really only care about making the game as good as it can possibly be, and that kind of philosophy deserves some respect, I doubt some other companies would do that.

The first thing I did when I walked into my home after a long, hard first day back at school was listen to an automated message telling me my most anticipated game is going to be delayed for, like, nearly half a year.

My day is shot.

/me shrugs and walks away

I don't even care. I expected this.

Good thing, anyways; my fall semester is going to be a busy one as it is.

I'm cool with it. It will be a better game, and I can save money. heh.

Maybe they'll make it cel-shaded during this extra time. Pull a fast one on everyone.

...hey, I can hope.

Shocking....

Has Advance Wars: Under Fire been officially canceled yet? It was supposed to be released last week.

It was changed to Battalion Wars. That'll probably tack on extra development time.

Who cares; as long as we're getting Fire Emblem GCN.

...Man that's going to be hot.
