I just got a new computer while I'll be taking to college, and I have the newest version of AIM installed on it. Whenever I try to directly connect to someone, or send them a file, AIM doesn't let me. I'm left with this message:

Make sure that your Buddy is using the latest version of AIM. Changing your settings in the Firewall preference may help. Also both you and your Buddy may need to adjust the settings of the firewall software on your individual networks.

I know it's not the firewall because I have it on the lightest setting...so maybe not everyone has updated AIM yet? I just don't understand why they're not working, can any of you help me out?

Possible everyone isnt using same version but usually shouldnt be a big problem. Check to make sure any firewalls the college may use on their servers arent interfering with AIM

Try turning the Windows Security Center Firewall off completley. If you're connecting to the internet through a router of some sort, it's internal firewall might be causing you some problems also. I know since I bought a router 1+ years ago, I can't exchange files through MSN anymore. I know it's the router because when I connect to the internet directly without the router, I have no troubles.
