so....i don't get it...people who saw those movies in theatres are entitled for a refund? just because there was 1 fake movie critic?! that's bull****. people go see movies of thier own free will, not because someone tells them to. i don't see how Sony is responsible for people going to see the movies.
if i want to watch a movie in theatres, i go watch it becuase of the trailers and the story and the actors, not becuase some critics found it to be good...for all i know, they could have different taste than me when it comes to movies.
I liked a knight's tale, the animal, and hollow man...and i wouldn't ask for a refund if i saw any of them in theatres no matter what, because i think sony deserved that money.
EDIT: umm...you will have to forgive me, it's 6:45 in the morning....but...WTF DOES SONY HAVE TO DO WITH ANYTHING?!

If you were unsure on a movie anda ton of movie critics called it "crap", would you still see it? You may but alot of people who are unsure read critic's reviews and if alot of them give praise, then alot will see. If its the opposite, it may be less depending on marketing hype

The issue is that Sony used quotes from a non-existent reviewer in its ads for movies. Therefore, the contention is not so much that Sony harmed a bunch of moviegoers by making them see a movie they wouldn't like but that Sony is guilty of false advertising. And if that was proven to everyone's satisfaction, then they fully deserve to pay millions for it.
What I really want to know is why they did this. It's not as if it's all that hard to find positive reviews somewhere. Just keep an eye on Rottentomatoes.com.

I don't get the whole critic thing. Everything is subjective. A critic may hate a movie, yet I may like it. You cant pay someone to tell the majority of the people if they liked it in a private screening or not, because it just doesnt make sense.
Whats the difference of a critic saying a movie is crap, opposed to a random person?
Why is a critics point more valid than a "fake" critic?
