It turns out the update s a universal update that it doesn't matter if you have a jp of us psp.
all you hve to do is create a folder called update inside the game folder and put the d/l in and install.

Hopefully they make a wee bit easier (Click and update, please! ;) ) Just because some people are stupid enough to screw up something as simple as this :p

yeah but it works great. this is what i wanted my psp to be like once i bought it.
its a nice update, web browser works nicely, has some quirky things like it says memory is full, which seem to be fixed by adjusting the cache. it also has tabbed browsing, and aparently you can download other stuff too, people have said they downloaded mp3's into the psp mp3 folder and played em right away, which is kinda neat really if you have access to the net wherever you may be at.
the new h.264 video is a great addition, i dont know the settings to encode one yet tho.
being able to select any picture and make it a background is a very welcome addition, i never liked how PSPersonalize worked that much. even more so that you can save any picture you find while surfing the web browser, and use them as backgrounds without connecting it to your pc or anything.
nice update, but worth the current loss of homebrew programs and emulators? Entirly up to you and how much you use thoes. i'd be happy either way right now. and im pretty sure within this year they'll find a way to make that stuff work on 2.0 anyway.
web brwoser does have java enabled, im wondering if someone will find a way to use java to run an emulator. but we'll see.
so if you want some extra features, better video support, and a web browser, Go ahead and use the update.
if you use the emulators and other programs a lot and really enjoy them, i'd say wait.

yes, i will be getting virtua tennis :) and then Battlefield 2 !! muhahaha
SSX in between i believe. :)
Ooh... ooh. Should I give up emus?
I only play SNES, and I've played most of the games anyways..
Ooh.. webbrowsing almost anywhere, or SNES classics anywhere? I'm so damn tempted for the former right now.
P.S. How powerful is the WiFi on PSP? I have a pretty powerful card at the campsite I'm at currently, and I'm pretty far away from the router.

Oh wow. I have to try that.
P.S. Yeah, I updated. It's hot. YTMND on the go! Except without music.
So I'm guessing music doesn't work at all while browsing?
havnt tried while browsing, but everything else i tried, the music stops and soon as you click another program to run.
i expect that they'll make it so you can do that later on, i think it'll be a highly requested feature

No, I meant embedded music in webpages.
I assume Java doesn't work either. Flash didn't. Hopefully we can use those in the future.
it has java support, at least theres an option to enable / disable java support, i thought i saw. have to go look again.

I read Javascript.
And it prompted me about opening a new tab with javascript while I was browsing.
ah, ok, (i dont have my psp on me, its at work so i cant check these things. hehe.)

Sony said there was a japanese leak of 2.0 that messed up PSP and they wouldn't fix em.
Am I going to get rid of my emulators?
NOPE
I'll wait until someone can do emu's on 2.0, then I will upgrade.
Yeah, upgrade to 2.0 and miss out on this guys!!!!

2.0 is awesome... browser / wallpaper ... especially.. now it doesnt have to be 24 bit bmp.... phew
<posts with psp>
well, I/do miss emus, but v2 is well worth the loss. internet almost anywhere, for me, is great. and the rest of the updates are convenient, too. I made like 15 WPs last night and I can't decide which one to use; they're all so hot.
too bad animated GIF files dont work as wallpaper. :D i made one to test and it just uses the first frame, cant move. :( woulda been cool to make some animated things, kinda like the psp original wallpaper. but with your own animation.

Ooh, that would be. And maybe down the line after they make that, they can have flash support for background.. *froths at the idea*

Sony Warns U.S. Against Japanese PSP Update

An update on Sony Japan's website is warning U.S. PSP owners not to download and install the recently released Japanese 2.00 update.
Sony's Japanese PlayStation website is carrying a warning to all PSP owners outside of Japan.
The site reads: "CAUTION: This update is only for customers who obtained PSP for Japan which model number is PSP-1000 or PSP-1000 K. Upon completion of preparing, we will announce update information for the other countries/areas customers via SCE Group Web Site or other channels. For theses customers who obtained PSP in the other countries/areas, please DO NOT update PSP through this web site."
The U.S. version of the update will be released on Sony's U.S. PlayStation website in the coming weeks. .
.
wait, what?
What's the harm?

nothing of harm has been done.. lol
I checked my box too, the model number is PSP-1000K....got it from Ebgames....
wait, what?
What's the harm?
Nothing, more then likely its one of a few things. Sony just wants to test it in japan first before officially sending it out worldwide. or, its possible thier servers are getting a bit over loaded from other countries that they wand others to wait first.
if it was truely meant only for japan, it woulda been very very simple for them to include a region checker with it.
and also, then why would it list the update on the network update option on the us psp itself?
