"I don't think the Revolution's [graphics] will be inferior in any fashion to Xbox 360 or PS3," said Iwata. "Even if you look at Zelda on GameCube, I don't think that looks inferior to what the competition is touting as 'next generation' visuals. But we think there are more important things for now than making the system work with a high-definition television."
Ok..I can deal with slightly lesser looking graphics. People on PS2/PS1 did even with the new offerings. But still no high def support? This puts a nail in the fact when I get a high def TV in the next 6-9 months, once all 3 consoles are out, I want my games looking crisp on my TV, not "normal". So if a game I want has nothing better to offer over PS3/Xbox 360, I'm getting the high def version, sorry Nintendo. Your going to regret saying that.
Iwata went on to say that most people who will be playing the Nintendo Revolution won't be doing so on high-definition compatible television sets anyway, and that 480p (progressive-scan) will remain the standard. Bottom line, according to Iwata, is Nintendo's desire to create a system capable of attracting as many people as possible. On the same note, Iwata said Nintendo had no desire to make people pay extra out of the box for the Revolution's DVD functionality, since most people already own one or more DVD players. He also reiterated that the DVD player will be built-in and not an external attachment. At E3 2005, the company confirmed that an additionally purchased dongle would activate the built-in DVD functionality.
Reiterate said above and also. Its nice that Ninty will put in DVD support from the get go but eh..I dont need it but wont mind having it.
As far as the Revolution's Internet connectivity is concerned, the system will be Wi-Fi compatible out of the box but won't come with an Ethernet port. Instead, Nintendo will sell an Ethernet adaptor for the Revolution's USB port. Iwata said it would be difficult, given where the Revolution will be in a household [probably the living room] for players to connect the Revolution to a traditional Ethernet line.
This is the same as requiring people who wanted to use headphones for the GBA SP that they have to buy an attachment. How does it cost too much to just put a damn ethernet port on the console. I can walk into an electronics store and buy a cheap ass ethernet card for UNDER $10 if not cheaper. Horrible idea to do this in all honesty.
Moving from hardware to software, Miyamoto said Nintendo is considering a DS version of the classic brawler Super Smash Bros. He also said that he'd like to make another Luigi's Mansion game and that a Pikmin game on Revolution would be a "good match" given the Revolution's unique and totally mysterious controller. But he said nothing about Pikmin Revolution was set in stone. Miyamoto also said that if it's technically possible on Revolution, then tweaking older games such as Mario Party for online play was a definite possibility.
At least one part of this interview yielded good news. If Ninty could make some of the N64 or older games online compatible, I suspect sales will go up quite a bit. mmmm, the possibilites :D But saying "technically possible on Revolution" is speaking Bullsh*t, in my opinion. Is Revolution not good enough to handle N64 games online or is this just a secret comment for "We're too damn lazy to make them online compatible". Hopefully neither are true because Nintendo needs to get themselves back in gear.

But thats all I have to say. I think with what Nintendo keeps doing, I'm gonna have to get a PS3/Xbox 360 for games that are more well done in terms of high def.
I dont mean to sound like a big critic but I tried to stay positive with Nintendo and Gamecube but with the many blunders they pulled, I feel its going to be the same thing all over again. 3rd parties wont care to port it to Rev and Nintendo will either bow out of the console hardware business and stick to handhelds, try to say all is well and not worry or go 3rd party for consoles only.

the whole "perfect for pikmin" thing has me thinking the controller will be two wireless handheld joysticks with gyros in each one idea again.

I'm thinking that most casual gamers (and probably most "hardcore" gamers, too) probably don't have the money to buy a high def TV. While I know that those people who do high defs TVs are very disappointed in the lack of support by Nintendo (well, at least the ones who care about Nintendo, anyway), I don't think that'll be a whole too many people.
So I doubt Nintendo will really doubt not having high definition support. Not this next generation, anyway.

The reason it annoys me more is the fact they are taking a step back it seems. Gamecube had the Digital A/V port for some high def like support then Nintendo gets rid of it saying it costs too much fora little port like that.
Plus, the reason I feel high def is a big thing is because prices have fallen alot and are continuing to and with the government settingt he date of I believe 2008 for networks and cable stations to only support high def, its going to become a major thing halfway through Rev's cycle and Nintendo is gonna be screwed unless they offer an upgrade to REv for like $10 to get a high def port.

Would a cheap little revolution High Definition upgrade be possible? Becaue if so, then all of this would make more sense...they can sell the console for a cheaper price from the get go, and then a year or 2 down the road when High Definition becomes more popular, they can sell the upgrade to let Revolution suppourt HD...although this will probably make developers ignore HD anyways. Honestly, 480p isnt so bad...I run all my Cube games in it and they look pretty good.

As was explained elsewhere in this forum (somewhere...), it's not as simple as "HDTV = better." The problem with the PS3 and Xbox 360 is they require developers to put everything into high definition even if the player's TV can't receive HD. For people without HDTV sets, this makes no difference at all. In fact, it can make games look worse compared to the Revolution because the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions will have lower polygon counts and fewer effects in order to support a higher resolution that the player can't see anyway.
Now if you do have an HDTV set, that's a tougher comparison to make. However, having read the actual interview, I can tell you that Nintendo plans to make 480p the standard on the Revolution. It's no 1080i, but it's not a step backwards.
This is the same as requiring people who wanted to use headphones for the GBA SP that they have to buy an attachment. How does it cost too much to just put a damn ethernet port on the console. I don't think so. He has a point. My living room is two floors down from where my net connection is. It's just easier for me to connect wirelessly since I do have a hub. Nintendo is betting that more and more people will be using wireless routers in their homes instead of snaking long ethernet cables everywhere.
I think that Nintendo has decided that trying to compete by copying Sony and Microsoft is a dead end. Let's face facts. Even if Nintendo had produced, let's say, a Halo killer for the GameCube, it would have sold terribly. Nintendo's audience just isn't interested in that kind of thing. It's not really Nintendo's fault that lots of third party games sold poorly on the GameCube. Sure, some of them were inferior ports, but even if they were almost on par with the Xbox version, they didn't sell as well as the PS2 version. Nintendo can try to get third parties to port their identical games to their system all they want, but it's a losing battle. So instead, they'll just try something different (presumably that's what the Revolution is all about). I don't know if it will work, but I think it's better than trying to offer lots of cash incentives for games that people won't buy.
And if you don't like that, get an Xbox 360 or a PS3. I think Nintendo is betting that their games will be interesting and different enough that you will give the Revolution a try as a secondary system or that they will attract enough new gamers that it won't matter. Not everybody in the world is an 18-30 year old male, you know.
P.S. It's nice that Iwata is saying the Revolution controller will be able to play all standard layouts. I guess the controller won't have fewer buttons or analogue sticks after all.

Okay.. DS Super Smash Bros. would probably be awesome for many DS owners. But for crying out loud.... another Luigi's Mansion for Revolution? I have no doubt in my mind, that I could probably predict Revolution's launch lineup.
*A mario game
Luigi's Mansion 2 (something like that)
Super Smash Sisters
Mario Karaoke Revolution
Legend of Zelda: Sword of Eternity (I'm just makin up names)
yeah... their elite 5.... thats going to be their lineup... It's not that those games aren't good... My point is..... They are so predictable..... as with the other consoles...
I'm glad to see new developers coming out for X360 and PS3... I especially like LAIR, and CONDEMNED.
You all know the rehashes thats coming for next-gen consoles.... I'm trying to look for NEW games now. Sony, Micro, and Ninty will all have their predictable titles..... this is getting tiring.

Xanny, I ain't giving up on Nintendo, just to FYI. I was just saying that ethernet should have been built in because not everyone has wireless routers yet. Some people swear to never get one until they get almost perfect signal strength :p
Plus...with the advancement in how quickly cable high speed is jumping (already seeing 20 down/2 up conenctions in testing here in the US), the 802.11b standard will be too slow for some people.
And soon enough, the G standard will be too slow for the internet connections that can be pumped out.
The only reason Nintendo irks me with HD is because IT IS going to be the standard in the US in only a few years. I know 480p is great and all but I wish there was flexibility in allowing up to 1080i or p or whatever and not just only 480p ;)

Nintendo has promised to sell a cheap router. And as for people who won't get one until they have almost perfect signal strength: I'm guessing those would be hardcore tech-heads. Too bad they only make up a tiny minority of the population. They're missing out, too. It's good enough for my dad, and he's a computer engineer.

"In only a few years"? How many years would that be? 3? 5? 10?
Current data on HDTV adoption is based on sales reports by retailers, but there's a big problem with it. It only measures how many HDTV sets are being sold. There's good evidence to suggest that a significant number of HDTV sets are being purchased by people who already have an HDTV set. They just want to upgrade because they're crazy tech-heads like that. That's good for the manufacturers, but it doesn't increase marketshare one bit.
The other problem is that right now, the people buying HDTV sets tend to be early adopters. One reason that IGN is stupid is they think the advent of HD can be compared to the transition to color from black and white. The fact of the matter is most people see no compelling reason to get an HDTV set. I have no doubt that within a few years, HDTV will be in some 20% of households. The question is how fast it will grow after that, and I wouldn't be too sure that it's going to be met with eager hands just because a few people on the internet think it's the greatest new technology ever made.
Besides that, we have Europe and Japan to consider. Look up their numbers some time.
The bottom line is that saying HD will be the standard in a few years is not only vague, it's also frankly foolish and heedlessly optimistic.
P.S. Don't look now, but Nintendo still makes way more money in their business than Microsoft. They even do better than Sony. So why are they going to be third party in a few years again?

I'm not gonna sit here and argue this anymore. Both of us have points. Not all can be agreed upon. I like HD because I want to stay a step ahead or be with the trend.
I guess you forgot the fact that I still will purchase Nintendo before others.

I must be missing something. Where did I say you wouldn't? I just said if Nintendo's not your thing, then it's not your thing and that's really okay by me. After all, you were saying in your first post that Nintendo is on its way to becoming a third party or dropping out of the business. But I never tried to guess about what you would buy or tell you what you should. Frankly, I don't care about that.
